Will porn industries killed by BT/P2P?

Hi all:

There are free porn BT (Bittorrents) and P2P file sharing all over the internet, and the number seems to be increasing everydays.
Do you think in the future it will hit us hard?

Dalai lama 02-23-2005 08:12 AM

Those programs are only 3 years old. It wont kill the industry.

groark 02-23-2005 08:13 AM

That's not it, millions of people are using those programs. But most of the files are infected with virusses, slow downloads and stuff. Most of the time kids are looking for this kind of stuff and adults are willing to drop $30 per month to download clean videos.

Fake Nick 02-23-2005 08:17 AM

I actually know a few of the biggest companies in our industry run thier own p2p networks and charge for admission to them its all thier own content and they dont have a bandwidth bill

Yeah but can't users add other files into the mix? And wouldn't they be helping pirate unlicensed content if the users were adding other outside content?

tungsten 02-23-2005 08:43 AM

nah i dont see that happening

clickclickclick 02-23-2005 08:46 AM

Many P2P players jumped on the BT bandwagon a while back. DRM + vids + labelling + BT = serious bling. If you go to some BT sites, 1/2 if not most of their adult vids are actually paysite marketing materials. P2P = very viral plus huge network reach. If I remember correctly, there is a sponsor that specializes in this method of traffic generation.

For more methods, see http://justtraffic.blogspot.com

I warned everyone about giving too much free content away. .now companies are tight. these programs are available to those hardcore surfers.. not those that have CC

no one wants to risk virus etc and to be honest.. our target market is not surfers.. but the people that own the plastic- and in general they are a little bit more savy in who to trust to get their content from

For more info on how DRM marketing can work for you, check out the info on DRM as marketing tool on: http://playadrm.com/Site_Questions_PlayaDRM.asp

The use of P2P for marketing videos date back a while. Before WMP switched off URL switching as default, Napster/Kazaa/Morpheus were peppered by 'pop up' video clips. One of the few things that changed is the software for P2P and its distribution architecture plus the rise of DRM.

swedguy 02-23-2005 09:34 AM

No it will not kill to industry. You adapt to the new markets.

And there's way too many people that has never heard about BitTorrent, DC or know what P2P is.

Manowar 02-23-2005 10:33 AM

obviously not.

IMO it will not hurt porn paysites but will hurt them as it becomes more and more popular. Alot of people I know would rather download files that may contain viruses than entering the credit card number to some pornsite.

There are not MILLIONS. Hell most people I know can't barely turn on their computers without calling me up and asking for help. Those using them have ZERO interest in PAYING for ANYTHING even if that was the only choice. Ask yourself this, do people still pay for cable TV? Why? The technology to get free cable has been around for 25 years.

Which will in turn steal their CC info.

Tony Montana 02-23-2005 11:30 AM

Most torrent sites don't even have adult content on them..

NaughtyAce 02-23-2005 11:39 AM

BT and P2P will eventually do to the porn industry what napster and programs like that did to the music Industry.
But were still going to be in business regardless and we'll come up with new ways of protecting the content, such as DRM, you can use the P2P networks towards your advantage.
