I remember exactly when these two came up head to head as I was still a youngster. It just amazes me how far Madonna was able to get being as smart as she was as opposed to Cyndi Lauper who did not get nearly as far as Madonna did.

Was it the talent you think, or was it the management and the controversy that Madonna created?

What ever it was, she did it right and Cyndi Lauper did not.

I guess what I am saying here is that every move you make counts more than you think.

I saw a recent interview with Cyndi & she seemed pretty happy with the way things turned out for her. She hated pop crap like her biggest hit & wanted to be a real artist rather than a packaged pop sensation. I think Madonna is very talented, but one of her greatest strengths is her marketing savvy. Cyndi didn't want any of that.

I think it comes down to whose definition of success are you trying to achieve?

I personally would rather have been cindi. She made enough to start her own business if she wants, she probably isnt flooded by fans all the time, and she doesnt get 200 prank phone calls at 2am

Don't minimize the view that Madonna had much more sex appeal than Cyndi Lauper.

Amen. Cyndi didn't want the fame bullshit. She was just having fun and oops she got noticed. If she had wanted to push the fame whore aspect she surely could have. She was way more cool than Modonna in those days.

Madonna was, and still is, attempting to be "something". Cyndi Lauper was/is who she is and never pretended to be anything else.

First of all Madonna is much smarter.....less drugs....always evolving with the times and changes....she has transformed herself time and time again....Madonna is never boring .... always crosses the edge and shocks people....her sex video....truth or dare...Madonna started a record production company...Madonna has a better voice.....Madonna has won goldem globes....Madonaa is Madonaa!!!

Cyndi Lauper is know for only 1 hit.... " Girls ...they wanna have fuuunnnn , oh girls just wanna have fun.... " and thats all Cyndi has done..... Have Fun...!

cyndi lauper was and continues to be a huge success, she is one of those people you don't ever hear about or see, but she has her hands in a lot of things

I had the chance to chat with her about 4 years ago at a hotel I was staying at, she is a very down to earth chick that obviously was not suited for the pop star life...you can just tell by chatting with her that she loved where her life led her

"true colors" also did good imho ;)

and btw, girls just one to have fun was not the only hit she had
