How do you set up one of these things? A good friend of mine is having a party and wants to broadcast it on the internet. He's got a webcam, but that's all either of us know about it so far.

Well I figured there was an easy way to get some answers and a hard way. ;)

I don't know what kind of software it came with or how to do the actual setup, I'm a complete dunce at technical matters.

I know its really easy to do with MSN Messenger. If you don't have any software to do the broadcasts, you'd need to get one. The webcam your "friend" has should have come with it. If not, try going to download.com and looking for some free webcam software to set it up.

usually theres software that comes with it. I use a good logitech one, pretty easy to set up and use

There are many pratfalls and perils, if you don't know what you're doing. You can't really be sure the other person is looking, or if your face is in shadow, etc. Many, many dangers, Kimmy. Don't do this by yourself, hun.
