This is too funny, I explained (or at least tried) to a black guy from Texas, but it is almost impossible to do...

We have this guy, St. Nicolaas (aka Sinterklaas) who comes here every year from Spain and gives presents, only he is not real. He has black guys (Zwarte Pieten/Black Pete's) who help him bring all presents around, he walks on the roofs with his white horse, and no: He is not a racist.

everybody, first of all: ia am bitter, but i got presents when I was little, but I WAS TERRIBLY DISAPOINTED WHEN I HEARD HE WAS FAKE. though i still like to play sinterklaas.... hi hi give presents in secret..

Colin, yes. That is possible. The funny thing is there are 100s of Sinterklaas' walking the country for 3 weeks. But when the little minds get suspicious, they (the parents/teachers) tell the kids they are 'help' Sints.

It is not a national holiday, although most schools/businesses give half a day off.

I regret to not have taken my digital camera today to my sister's house, my little nephew (2.5) loved it and we got him shitloads of gifts. We know a family that 'plays' Sinterklaas every year, so of course they came and read from the big book of Sinterklaas, where all the information about the kids is in.
