I bet that would just make the other boards bigger. The smaller webmasters would go there and the sponsors would follow, along with their advertising dollars. A small $5 or whatever one time payment might work but I think that would even be pushing it.

I think it should be by post count... Threads that go to a second page give you a credit for the amount of posts in them. ie, contest actually make you money.

The idea for paying for a board is interesting only in as much as you get something in return for your money.

Actually, why not just moderate new users and not accept signups from hotmail/yahoo etc? That's already been talked about before...

But there's alot more webmaster boards out there, the one that starts charging a fee will retain maybe 5% of it's members. And the remaining 5% will leave once they realize all of their advertising potential is gone.
