Dedicated server pricing needed

Please don't post see sig or a url to managed.com hosting :-)

I currently have a teeny lil' 'ol server - 1.8 celeron with 512k.

Things are getting busy - I was maxed out at 150 servers for about 24 hours.. apache restarted twice. Total server load was between about 10 and 18.5 most of the time.

I want this:

Intel Pentium IV 2.4GHz
1GB DDRAM Memory
(2) 120GB EIDE Hard Drive (2nd for backup - not raid)
2,000GB Data Transfer or unmetered 10mbit cap

Red Hat
mySQL (duh)
Cpanel/WHM/Fantastico
PHP (patched), Zend Optimizer, ImageMagik, all the standard stuff you find on a server with CPanel.

Managed (at least partially - I don't need hand holding - just when major problems pop up, which shouldn't be often - things like when bind fails to do it's thing, or I'm getting DOS'ed). I've dropped e-mail to support three times in 6 months, and called twice (one DOS attack, one failure to bind a new IP).

Please reply here with ballpark prices, and a way to contact you (ICQ, MSN, E-Mail).

Thanks!

Any desired target rate, $$$? This is a bump.

JFPdude 02-21-2005 06:26 PM

I'll help a fellow North Carolinian out here ...

The problem isn't your specs... although better specs can help you need to have apache optimized.

The problem can be fixed simply by tweaking apache. If you still think you need a new server consider this. I have half the specs you just named and running twice the hits.

Thanks for the bump!

Managed.com would be about $175 with a remote reboot - that's for 1000gig transfer, so add whatever it would cost for 2000, or the same box, etc, with unmetered.

I use Vault Networks. www.vaultnetworks.com

Really good, probably around $150/mo. for what you are looking for, maybe up to $200. I highly recommend them, though.

That would be nice :-)

My site(s) are very database dependant. It's actually mySQL that's doing most of the work. Zend optimizer lowered the server load drastically for the site software (Coppermine Photogallery - a badly optimized peice of software) but the database needs more ram/horsepower. The next version of coppermine has much more optimized SQL code, but I can't wait that long :-(

I also run phpAdsNew (another server hog on the DB), that's serving banners to three different sites.

Plus, I'm working on a niche search engine that is probably going to be pretty heavy as well.

If you have any tips on optimizing Apache I'd be very interested in hearing them.

Thanks :)

I can pop you on a 10Mbps Unmetered P4 2.8 120GB (w/additional 120), 1GB of RAM, and Plesk 10 Domain for $414.95/month. I'll waive the setup fee ($50) if you buy in the next 2 weeks. That is our high-quality network, which equals lower pings.

Or you can pay an additional $125 setup (for the extra HDD) and then your monthly cost will be $399.95. Servers will be available early March.

Sign up now and prepay 6 months and I'll give you the 7th month Half Off. Make sure you mention that you got the deal from me so we can credit you back the $49.95 setup fee.

Includes an off server control panel so you can remote-reboot the server yourself (it is built into the power strip at our datacenter, quite nifty).

P.S. If you are in the Chicago Area Hit us up for a tour of the datacenter ( [email protected] ).

You're best to contact hosts and see what they'll offer you. You'll almost always get a better offer in private than publically, they don't want to make other clients mad. :)

Check www.amdac.com

Specifically designed for cpanel stuff...good rates, and looks like they've got lots of bandwidth, to boot.

You're kidding me right?

A standard cable connection these days is 9mbps. Your server will be owned by 10 users.

chaze 02-22-2005 03:57 PM

Hello,

Just ignore the idiots around here.

If you are serious then I can do the for $599 with a open line. 10 megs is too low, you don't want to piss off your customers during peak hours and get charge backs. What if you get a HUn listing 10 megs will will turn into peanuts if the pics are decnet quality.

We will just limit it to the total megs you mentioned.

Let me know if you want to do it right the first time.
