Pop unders back after pop up blockers blocked
ADVERTISERS APPEAR to have found a way to subvert Pop-Up Blocker technology, according to a report filed on MacFixIt, as well as the personal experience of many web users.
Previously, popular browsers such as FireFox and Apple's own Safari browser have been successful at blocking pop-up advertisements on websites. However, over the last week, web users have begun to see an increase in pop-under adverts. Pop-unders are adverts that appear behind the current browser window, rather than on top of it. Discussion on internet advertisement message boards reveals that code has been developed to pop-under adverts that can't pop-up because of browser blocking. We are expecting to see an increased number of pop-unders over the next few weeks, as browser programmers play catch-up. Some big name sites continue to encourage the use of pop unders. So it's really the publishers pandering to the advertisers that are to blame. It was ever thus. Taken from - http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=21364 |
