That type of mainstream media site has a whole category of equally large sites. Consumption Junction is one of the bigger examples. There's quite a lot. It's a great demographic--mostly college kids and its very viral. Plus those tons of page views = CPC potential $$$$
I did. The closest to a suit is:
One of the most popular features is the soundboard with audio clips from celebrities such as Dr. Phil and Judge Judy. The content is pulled from various sources, or is sometimes original content submitted to Bauman.
At times, it has gotten Bauman in hot water. Howard Stern has mentioned the site on his show. In 2002, Viacom threatened to sue Bauman for using content from its clients, such as Paramount.
Threats and actual suits are very different things
Actually, I think he was smart for investing in commercial/office property.
Well, I've been interviewed by newspapers on a few occasions before (it was internet related), and they don't do any research on you. They ask vague questions and you can say whatever you want. Then they word it all nice to be published. For example, you could say "Yeah, I run websites" and they would say something like "Shoehorn runs a vast network of high traffic websites ranging from adult entertainment to mainstream advertising." or whatever. Whatever they can do to make you want to read more and fill in all the space they need to fill in they will. The American media and Hollywood are the same thing.

I know, but do you think a major company like Paramount or Viacom is going to jump into a lawsuit? I think they would do their homework so the case would be cut and dry. Regardless, if hes stealing content and infringing on copyrights he'll go down.

Actually, given their bulk billing relationships with many litigation firms, I'm sure if they really wanted to stir shit they would have... Its definitely gonna hurt eBaum more than it would hurt them.
It's not like there's no legal issues involved with such sites. For one thing, commercial appropriation of one's likeness is possible if they take your funny vid with your likeness and stamp their logo on it (Without your permission of course).

Definately, I am not arguing that fact. What I am saying is that just because hes only been threatened doesn't mean that those companies were merely blowing smoke up his ass to scare him.
This guy may not be a genius and have the audacity to steal other people ideas but having made that much money from a 'school prank' is something we have all dreamed about and isn't that we all want at he end of the day - the guys does have brains somewhere - even if they are in his balls!
I have seen that site from back in the day, with the whole E/N scene.
The thing with those sites is people tend to send their friends the links after they seensomething cool on it. Funny pics, jokes, soundboards seem to be mainstream stuff. As you can see the site has tons of pop ups and those "Which pic is Britney Spears" type ads. That can pile up dough quick, but who would think millions?
Those joke/funny type sites seem to just annoy me nowadays.
Very viral site. We have a blog that does funny news stories and media as well and the hits do pile up specially if the featured media of the day is a doozy.
