XP GONE CRAZY!!!!
hi,
i really need help with winxp professional (final).i bought a new pc 2 days ago and installed xp again and i donīt know why but xp is getting on my fucking nervs.. when i work with the pc and do something it happens that xp simply reboots without any notice or errormsg. i donno what this might be.. but what i know is that it always happens when i CLICK (close a window/start something) IF ANYONE KNOWS WHATS WRONG / WHAT IT MIGHT BE PLEASE HELP! Unless you bought your pc from a computer show you should have some free tech support time. Use it. Make those techs earn their money.

well.. who to contact?? i didnīt buy a complete pc package..i bought the HD at shop1 and the cpu at shop2, .... and contacting MS.. well.. i called them once ago and they only told me BS and couldnīt help me at all. M$ can suck my dick. still advice appreciated! you think its a hardware conflict or software??

Well, I'm having the same problem with my home pc.
I also built my unit from components, so I have no tech support people to harass. (and no, I'm not going to even bother calling Microsoft). My problem differs slightly, in that I haven't determined what action(s) cause the random reboot. One day I was just listening to mp3s and it rebooted... other times just browsing the web. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to isolate the problem... but I suspect it is one of 3 things: 1) Bad RAM -- I have 512MB of DDR, which I tested using software apps -- although I understand software tests aren't the most reliable. 2) CPU overheating - According to the BIOS, the CPU core temp is within normal operating temps -- but that's without XP running.. so who knows 3) Corrupt OS -- I don't really think this is.... but a guru at a local computer parts store suggested this. I'm going to upgrade to the Pro version later this week... and am going to do a clean install to isolate this issue. Then again.. XP could just be crap... Check your energy saver settings and make sure your OS isn't scheduling reboots. Make sure your power supply is rated for your cpu and not overloaded with devices. Check the tech boards for known issues for all of your components. If your cpu is under warranty and you can't find any existing known issues then replace the cpu - better safe than sorry.

Same thing here, but it only happens about once a week...I tought it was a trojan or maybe a virus but it looks like I'm not the same with this problem...!

did you do a windows update?
there was a new pack out to upgrade to, the old one had that bugg, but it's fixed now. it use to happen to me when i played certain games, and it switched in and out of video modes... |
In my case...
The mainboard is an <a href="http://www.ecsusa.com/K7S5A.cfm">ECS K7S5A</a>. I've got an ATI 2000pro video card with 32MB of RAM. I've ran windows update (I had to do that just to get the onboard audio to work). Also.. in response the power supply.. I only have 1 HD, 1 CD-RW, and 1 floppy. Maybe it's the onboard NIC... I don't think it's the OS.... sounds more like the chipset or something. I had an Asus board with the same chipset that was doing the exact same thing under Win2k... swapped out the board with a completely different model from a different manufacturer, keeping all other components and software, and that was the end of the problem. I don't think it's specific to ECS either... ECS is about four blocks away from me, and I used to pick up shipments from them almost daily. I've been in their production area and they have a very clean operation. My guess at this juncture would be the chipset. Junk it and get a new mainboard.

I don't have XP but in 2000 Pro you: right click on My Computer click properties click advanced click startup and recovery ***Unclick under system failure "Automatically Reboot" Just a suggestion, as I said I have 2000 Pro but if XP has anything in common I bet if you untoggle this it'll stop rebooting on errors.
