Newbie Hosting Question

I just bought 5 domains and I want to host them all on the same server. Can I rent a server from servermatrix.com and have all the domains on that server?

JFPdude 02-20-2005 01:38 PM

Sure you can do that anywhere. Now to get page rank and search engine hits you may want to ask the host to put all 5 domains on different ip addresses ... they can still be on the same server / account with different ip addresses.

it depends from the traffic you have on this domains, an 2,6 box with 1Gb ram should handle about 500.000 visitors daily

Hostive, you allow multiple domains on your shared?

Drizzt 02-20-2005 04:30 PM

Don't ya just hate that? Damn Technology. :)

PbG 02-20-2005 04:40 PM

Yes you can however since you just bought them and assuming they have little or no traffic a dedicated server is most likely overkill and/or a waste of money. Hell even if they have moderate traffic a shared or semi dedicated is still more cost effective. Now if these domains are already pulling 200GB+ each or you plan on doing heavy database and/or scripting then yes a dedicated server makes perfect sense. Otherwise you could put all five of those domains in an inexpensive (<$20/month) shared plan to start with then upgrade as needed.

PbG is right, you're best suited with a virtual plan
