Which, and why?

Tala 02-19-2005 03:37 PM

I'd be interested in finding out as well. Also, where the hell can I get a cable that will work with a USB port for this damn camcorder?

Vagisil 02-19-2005 03:39 PM

you can't capture dv from a usb port from the camcorder, that's just for downloading the stills or streaming compressed video from your camcorder

have to use the firewire port

Praguer 02-19-2005 03:46 PM

For amateur purposes.

Do you run Xp on your computer and do you have a firewire connection?

If so, just get yourself windows movie maker an it should automatically recognize the camera once it's plugged in.

For professional, use premier

adobe premiere using your firewire connection. I've tried lots of other programs and nothing else compares.

Praguer 02-19-2005 03:56 PM

Just get a Firewire cardbus installed, I don't know there, but they run for about 50 Euros here.

Vagisil 02-19-2005 04:03 PM

use your desktop

flashfreak 02-19-2005 04:15 PM

ok, best one is WinDV, hands down!

it's the first software that doesn't drop frames, no matter what you do in background..
makes sense, since it has only 92kb.

if you don't have firewire you will need to use the rca jacks on the camcorder and capture in real time through a rca IN on your computer

yes, good advice.

just upgraded my PCs and winXP moviemaker is very simple no glitch way to start burning movie DVDs.

not a pro software, but doggone it works good for quickie stuff.

make sure you've good some horsepower on your box though.

This is correct.

Best would be Premier 1.5 as 6 crashes a lot.

Pick up a firewire card from your local tech store. They are all of $20 or so bucks. You will be in luck if you run on XP, but if you are on another system (like I was) then you might have to track down drivers.

Amen. Nothing quite like it. Also make sure you get the DivX or Xvid drivers or software add on. Makes a huge difference in quality, and sizing down the files!!!

Correct.

And make sure you have a ton of RAM, and storage space because if you are editing your own website's videos, you will need to make sure and back up to originals (before conversions) just so you are not tracking down tapes, and so forth later if you mess up or go to convert to something else.

Good luck!

A deck (I use a Sony DSR-11) , a $30 firewire card and the BEST capture program Scenalyzer Live (Scenalyzer.com)
