NHL season - one last chance

I'm reading on http://www.tsn.ca/ that meetings are taking place overnight tonight to hopefully bridge the gap in differences between the NHL and the NHLPA.

Apparently Wayne and Mario got on the phone and said "for fuck sakes, can't they get it together?"

I'm hoping for some good news tomorrow. I'll take an abbreviated season, as long as I get my Saturday HNIC fix.

I'd still like to see them play but I think it may be rather boring and the playoffs might not have that feeling it normally has.

Whats the point. 28 game season? That would suck ass.

gecko 02-18-2005 10:02 PM

The point is that some of us diehard hockey fans would rather have a shortened season, than no season at all. :winkwink:

If they do play, it's going to be wide open race. No real favourites.

sickkittens 02-18-2005 10:06 PM

Will people actually get as excited as they normaly would when their team wins it all?

at least we would know theres gona be a full season next year

quiet 02-18-2005 10:12 PM

i think a short season would be *more* interesting. something that's never been done before, and every game extremely important. it would be anyone's game.

SmokeyTheBear 02-18-2005 10:34 PM

well hopefully my double thread will help

Think about it... Theres only 28 games remaining. Any team can get hot and get into the playoffs. There will be teams in the playoffs who won't be in it if there a full season.

Plus... remember some teams only have like half a roster of signed players under contract.

Not necessarily true. Most players have been playing *some* hockey and most teams don't go through alot of cold streaks anyways.

I think those teams on the bubble during full seasons may be mixed up but the shitty teams will still be shitty teams regardless.

but many teams go through *hot streaks*, particularily at the beginning of the season. anyway, every game would have more importantance, making each game more interesting.

The team with the most return players from overseas will have the best chance. But not player will be able to cross back this year. But it will still be anyones game.

I just want to see some NHL hockey :)

Yeah. That would be the best part. Most of the regular season games are boring to watch. This may be interesting. Who knows?

Agreed. Like atlanta were really hot during the beging of the season same goes for Nashvile but they both died off after the allstar game

Trent Edison 02-18-2005 10:41 PM

I agree, uncancel it, but dont rush getting puck on the ice. Get things together properly for the start of the next season. Those months of no hockey hurt a lot of people in the whole league, so it should take time to fully recover.

Vitasoy 02-18-2005 10:43 PM

That's why I said it's going to be a free for all :) Teams who had a slight chance, really have a chance now. If they do have a season...

Spunky 02-18-2005 10:44 PM

They already basically killed it and are in damage control. The fan is only going to get ripped off more with a measly 28 game season..The players and owners know that the longer they stay out the more fans forget about it.Look at baseball..far more popular and when they went out ,they weren't welcomed back with open arms and took a couple years to get back on what they lost.

I agree with most of what you said, but how can the fans get ripped off more with 28 games + playoffs? I consider it a bonus. Since it could have been ZERO. Plus who knows when they start the season, if they do close it all down.

This is of course if they can resolve all the issues, and get on the ice and play some hockey right now... :)
