I did this site yesterday afternoon for a mainstream client ...

I charged the guy $100 USD for a 10 year domain registration, so I made about $55 CDN from that, and then charged him $150 CDN for the site design.

All I really had to do was create the woodburned plaque, color correct the pics (some of them had really bad flash glare in them), and a couple special effects on the pics (dropshadowing and curled edges).

My wife has always told me that I don't charge enough for my mainstream stuff, while my arguement it that mainstream small business owners will not pay for designs the way an adult site owner will ...

Any and all opinions would be appreciated

The client only wanted a simple design like a brochure ... that is exactly what he got, and was VERY happy with it.

hmmm... not exactly award winning stuff there HM... but hey, a quick $150 is cool if the guy is satisfied. Take the money & run, cuz if he does any looking into the stuff, he's gonna see that he could've had essentially the same thing from a template and 5 minutes inside PSP7. I don't think you'd get any more money out of it, if that's what you're asking. But hey... I'll step up here & admit I've done some similar 10 minute jobs for some nice coin in the past. Certainly nothing I would ever put into my portfolio... but they do come in handy for a quick buck every now & then. I can promise you though.... headaches always follow stuff like that... give it a month or two, and the guy will be back bitching about this & that... wanting more for his money. I had to frame the layout like that to keep the text and images out of the left margin, but I optimized it for 800x600. I do know what you mean though ... I have 1024 resolution, and it is same idea for me.

Amp: The guy I did it for has trouble opening his email attachments, little own try to use a PSP template.

I always offer minor adjustments to my customers (both adult and mainstream) for free ... it is good business, and prevents jobs like these from coming back to haunt you.

How many frickin surfers use 1240X1024 res?? Like fuckin 1%!! I say use 800x600 because 80%+ are using that res size and it will look best to them.

I couldn't agree more Amp. I used to optimize for Nutscrape when my demographics said that 30% of the net still used them, but now the same stats say less then 2% ... not even worth my time.

Take a cross section of 100 surfers ... 98 use some version of IE (which inludes the AOL and @home browsers too), and 2 fucking wankers use Nutscrape ... Which group you think has more money ???

I just checked the server logs for the week here... 1 fucking guy hit 2 pages with Netscape. Yeah... I'll be sure and make my stuff Netscape compliant. It's at the top of my list.
