How should I quit smoking? Cold Turkey isn't an option...
Has anyone gotten hypnotised? I heard that works... I need some advice.. my asmtha is catching up to me and it's not mixing well with the marlboros I suck down every 20 minutes :disgust

Best advice is to quit smoking. Period. Simply deny it. Be a man about it.
I did, and I'm a nonsmoker for over a year now. To be honest I dislike the smell of it already, and prefer the nonsmoking part of the restaurant. |
Here's practical advice. Put your pack of cigarettes and lighter in the other room.
Get up RIGHT now, pick them up, walk downstairs, upstairs, across the house or wherever and set them down! DO it. Now, when you make that automatic reach, you'll remember that you're not supposed to do that. Pick up a pen or something else and begin replacing that habit now. Good luck. |

A person I know smoked 2 packs a day and got hypnotized. Hasn't smoked since. The nicotine patch helps a whole lot. It takes the edge off. If you're ready it will help. Good Luck :thumbsup

Putting the cigs away won't do shit guys.
He'll get into a bar and buy them again. The whole purpose is carry that pack around, along with a lighter, and never touch it. Yes, it a great pain :) but when I come to think of it right now, makes me laugh, really. Like I said, just be a man about it, and deny it. You control your life? Do it. |

I bought the Nicoderm step 1 patches Friday after work. I smoked my brains out one weekend and drank heavily knowing on Sunday I wanted to quit. Woke up that morning feeling like shit with horrible smokers lung. Put on a patch, and tried my best to keep my mind of smoking.
The patch kept the physical craving away so I didn't have to kill anyone, but the hard part was the mental urge (like taking breaks during work to smoke, smoking during drinking, etc). If you can beat the mental part of it, you'll be fine. Been smoke free since November and feel a helluva lot better. Smell better too :) |

well i dont know about the best advice but i stoped smoking after my sister came at me with a ten inch knife!
though statistacly if you can stop your self for 7 days then the cravings are gone from your body and then it is all mind over matter |

For you maybe, not for all. ;) Putting them in another room does force you to think of it as a physical task to have to go and get them when you want one. It's not a complete answer, but it puts it in a new perspective which is helpful for many people who just unconsciously grab them one after the other.. |
Every time you light a cigarette, take only one inhale, and then put it out. This does two things- 1) you will get pissed off from the amount of $$$ you are blowing, and 2) (more importantly) you will not physically be able to get the same amount of nicotine so your body will slowly crave it less. It works.

Ok, so I just went through this last month. been a smoker for over 10 years and yes.. it's a bitch.
Here is what i did. Ask Dr. for a Zyban prescription (yes I know.. anti pyschotic). they tell you to take this for 6 months.. you don't need it. first you load on the Zyban. take for 7 days, on the 7th day buy a 200 pack of nicorette (fresh mint is the best, but i found that the original mint seems to taste like shit.. but makes you not wan't to chew it after a while). Depending on your level of smoking, I took the 4mg pieces of gum. Start chewing! after another week on zyban, reverse.. slowly ween yourself off of zyban. after 6 weeks on the gum, you will be down to about 1 piece a day, then it's nothing to quite. Dude, it's a bitch, and the zyban is just mean't to take the edge off for a while. I was a fucking zombie for 3 weeks.. but at least i didn't shoot any of the employees in my office! remeber, whats worse.. chewing nicrorette the rest of your life, or not being able to breathe!
