Trax 02-17-2005 05:14 AM

no surprise
how stupid does one have to be to put all the thousands of spam page on their main domain lol
people that stupid deserve to be banned.

Trax 02-17-2005 05:15 AM

this one will be interesting in the next couple of days:

That must be nearly 1 million uniques a day, if all that traffic came from SEs then it's going to hurt "a bit"

They played a game they didn't knew and lost...serves them well :2 cents:

You don't even know what you're talking about...

This wasn't in house SEO that caused this.

cafeaulait 02-17-2005 11:18 AM

do tell more then?

I don't??
I am 90% sure that when I ran the site:eroticy.com command on google in the past I saw thousands of highly spammed pages
now I see 2 who are not on the erocity domain...

if this wasn't inhouse seo then what was it
I am really curious :)

ShellyCrash 02-17-2005 11:28 AM

I'm not here to talk shit about anyone- but the cause of it was not someone under our employ, and it happened on Monday, not today, and I will leave it at that.

It should be no surprise to anyone here that there are haters in the industry, I'm not going to sling mud back. Our rankings with Alexa, etc, are still strong even after taking that hit. We've been around since 1998 and we still have our original domain, etc. I'm not going to say that I'm happy about it, but it's far from crushing our business.

jazzll 02-17-2005 11:31 AM

Did you allow your affiliates to store content on your domain?

The Bootyologist 02-17-2005 11:31 AM

damn i guess spamming doesnt pay

LOL who am I kidding?!

We host all the content we offer affiliates.

According to Wordtracker, "eroticy" is searched for 879 times per day. That's a lot of traffic you've lost.

Now the task for your competitors is to create pages optimized for that keyword and redirect that traffic to their sites :pimp :pimp

Oh well...

slapass 02-17-2005 12:11 PM

or direct it to them. How is their affiliate gprgram? anyone use it?

Oh well...

so, you're saying you couldn't get listed as well as they did, so as a competitor, instead of imprvoing your submits, you simply turned them in?

wow, SEO is a dangerous business...

.:St Ides:. 02-17-2005 12:20 PM

Eroticy has been around since 1998, I have seen nothing bad said about them. I am sure they will be back on top of google in no time. When you are the biggest around you are a target, jealousy brings haters, and haters bring these threads.

When you do a shit like this normally you stfu and stay low profile
You are a complete retard to brag about it.

They can do the reverse and spam your own domains just to piss you off and you wil get banned to , its not really hard to get someone banned

:2 cents:

probably back on top of google
but never again on that domain name (at least not in the next year).

to ShellyCrash... i don't know your affiliation with ero (i have sigs disabled and can't tell from your nick) but what I know is that the stuff was hosted the main domain which is as stupid as it can get.
I know why you did it... age wise :) and I also know how you did it.

as far as the "happened on Monday" thing goes.. the ban probably but the spam has been running a lot longer...
don't mark me as a hater just because I said what your guys did was dumb :)
It was dumb...
I have projects that are spamming the engines as well... I am not hating about what you did. it is how it was done.
that's it for me :)
live long
live strong

you know as good as I do that it takes quite a bit to get a manual ban on your domain.
just my 2 cents

Yup, but if the other guy want really to piss him off and even if it take 3 month to get him banned , he will get his revenge if he want to.

I think we're pretty good, we have alot of tools and we do alot of business with some of the bigger names in the industry. Feel free to check us out: http://affiliates.eroticy.com/

ShellyCrash 02-17-2005 01:04 PM

Trax, I work for Eroticy- I am the director of operations, and the affiliate program is my baby.

Alot of SEO was wiped- but we are not "banned" from google.

It's not something that you want to have happen to your company- does it cost us $$- yes, but we are working with one of the larger SEO firms to have this corrected. The reason I pointed out that this happened on Monday was in reference to the post about watching our alexa rank drop. How many companies do you think can survive a hit like this and not loose that much ground with rankings in the 1000's? Not many, and though this is a set back I think it speaks alot for the stability of our company.

We have really stong relationships with the companies that do business with us- there are very few people who have ever said anything nasty about us, and in my opinion no one reputable. When you're one of the bigger companies in the game these things happen.
