There are several ways - i think the best is the one you are most comfortable with. Personally i use the Mask tool and "paint" the part of the image i want to keep. While not the quickest way to do it - it allows you to zoom in really close to ensure a smooth cut. The masking tool can be found in the main tool window under your forground/background colour boxes.

The pen tool is your friend. Learn it, live it, know it.

the best way is pick up a copy of 'KNOCKOUT' - an add-on to photoshop... great fucking program, even gets all the hair... but if you don't want that, the closest thing is to use the 'extract' feature in photoshop, search for that :thumbsup

Just as a side note, the extract tool is great for something in high contrast to the background. Otherwise, for me anyway, it's sloppy. The pen tool is the only thing I use. Draw your bezier points around the object to be extracted, connecting the lines completely. Right click and select. Ctrl+X...

Simplified but... Open pic Double click background layer in layers palette, rename to anything other than Background. Select Zoom tool and click and drag an area to start. Select polygonal Lasso Tool Follow along edges. After a arm, leg, whatever bring out, the selection out to the background. close area and delete. After the you get rid of the entire background, you are left with just the person. This is over simplified, you should be able to find some tuts on masking searching with google. It can be really simple, or complex depending on your level of PS experience. Masking is the way to go, the above steps are the quick, and dirty way. Hope this helps. |
