how accurate are they with their traffic rankings?

if they give a site a ranking of 1000 does that actually mean there are only 999 sites in the world that get more traffic?

i am under the impression that their rankings are a good guide.. but nowhere near accurate..

Who knows really. Its based off of people that have the Alexa toolbar installed, and how many people do you know that have that?

Alexa is for the elite. Google is for getting there. :winkwink:

It's not the end all be all of stats.... it'll give you a "rough" idea of what's what, but it's by no means perfectly accurate.

I agree that alexa is a rough estimate but not 100% accurate.

Alexa ranking is not very accurate... but it shows approximate amount of traffic on sites

It's accurate, but not minutely accurate.

I wouldn't say it's definite that #2990 gets more traffic than #3000. That's too close, but I think it's safe to say #4000 gets more traffic than #6000.

I only use it to measure who is bigger than who in general, or if they are about the same. You can't know the exact amount separating them, only "a little," "quite a bit" or "they are in another league."

the only way it could be accurate is if everyone surfing the net had the alexa toolbar .. they don't, so it isn't.

Its also very easy to manipulate and show completely bogus traffic numbers

It is somewhat an accurate measure!

Can't be to exact. My PageRank & Alexa statusbar gives this page a rank of 2031..
