Donnie Darko....Anybody seen it? What was the point?

From what I see, the boy really got hit by the plane engine and the whole movie was just a dreams of a person who just died.

Am I correct?

Sly 02-15-2005 09:48 PM

Not really. It doesn't really have a point. I sat in on a Q&A with the writer about 2 years ago.

Its a comedy. A dark comedy, but its hilarious. Watch it a couple times, you'll pick up on little things that are funny as hell.

Go back to China, bitch!

no it wasnt a dream.. or i ddint interpert it that way.. he made a choice to go back.. to change it for the better

Wiggles 02-15-2005 09:59 PM

its impossible to interpret a correct solution, its just something that makes you think.

DX 02-15-2005 10:04 PM

it's a piece of shit waste of your time.

Pete-KT 02-15-2005 10:05 PM

Its a good movie but you have to watch it 3 or 4 times to understand it and to catch everything the first time i thought it sucked but then after that the more i watched it the more i understood

Man I don't think I can get through this movie again. If I have to watch it more than once to catch on, it's not for me.

One of the best movies ever made IMO...

Donnie Darko had the ability to time travel. The first time he got out of bed before the engine hit. He attempted to change things for the better, figured out the world would've been better off had he died, so went back in time and the engine came down on him. The events that happened when he avoided death stayed in the subconscious minds of the people he dealt with though, making them better people in a way, thus making the world a better place...

...if that makes sense...there really is no set in stone answer, other than the more I watch it, the more I dig it...

AdultWebGraphics 02-15-2005 10:11 PM

It's all about time travel :)

reynold 02-15-2005 10:12 PM

I haven't seen it. Sounds freaky.

xfalmp 02-15-2005 10:13 PM

No, it's not just a dream. It's a little bit complicated, but it makes way more sense after you read this, which is a brief of the book Roberta Sparrow wrote (which she didn't, actually). By the way I don't think it's just a comedy, it's a movie which makes you think about it, and that's the purpose.

This board can help you understand it better.

i just watched it again the other night. great movie. Sly, very cool that you got to be involved in a q and a.

dozey 02-16-2005 01:00 PM

you need to make sure you read the little paragraphs about time travel, then it will make sense.

SykkBoy 02-16-2005 01:00 PM

I've always interpreted it as he was killed by the engine and what we see is basically that instant between him being dead and being alive...kind of a "flashing before your eyes" type of thing....
