The greatest Firefox feature I've seen so far, click here if you use Firefox!

I can't believe I haven't installed this earlier!

It's called "Ad Block". It's an extension, which lets you right click on a banner (gif, flash) and block it, or you can set up wildcards to block off whole ad networks.

I wonder how this is going to affect advertising on GFY! If this gets huge, advertisers will have a big problem.

Have a look:

And you discover this today? lol

Can you believe it?! But I'm sure there are loads of others who haven't installed this yet, I'm probably not the only slow one. :)

MrJackMeHoff 02-15-2005 03:49 PM

Wow.. All I can say is wow.. I have had every banner on gfy turned off for months..

dunefield 02-15-2005 03:50 PM

i don't think there is anything wrong with the gfy banners... only the ones that make noise without going over it...

psili 02-15-2005 03:51 PM

Peep the Ctrl + Click / Ctrl + Tab feature. That's pretty nifty too ;)

Rui 02-15-2005 03:53 PM

Shit you only found out about this now...DAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Manowar 02-15-2005 03:56 PM

I don't mind them either. But it's quite handy to shut down ads on certain news sites for example.

reynold 02-16-2005 02:37 AM

Thanks for the info pal. :)

Jace 02-16-2005 02:38 AM

wow, almost every firefox user has brought this up on GFY...a lot too

GoogleBot 02-16-2005 02:41 AM

titmowse 02-16-2005 03:42 AM

just don't get that abe vigoda status extension. it hijacks your hompage. then again, it might have been the joke terror alert status extension. either way, i got rid of both of them and now my homepage is just fine :)

gangbangjoe 02-16-2005 03:48 AM

i love the tiffycash sound banner

nico-t 02-16-2005 03:58 AM

blocking ads is fucked up, theyre part of a page.... also when i check my own pages i wanna see the damn ads, i dont wanna see an adless page of mine!

chodadog 02-16-2005 04:24 AM

AdBlock was what saved me from KMan's hypnotic sig. Go go gadget helicopter.

You clearly haven't installed the extension. It doesn't simply block all ads by default. You have the option to turn certain banners off. This is way better. Check it out, I'm sure you'll like it.

hova 02-16-2005 04:46 AM

very nice feature

Dynamix 02-16-2005 05:08 AM

I've had it installed but the menu doesn't appear when I right-click Flash files :helpme

Rui 02-16-2005 05:18 AM

The best is that you can block some images, like for example kman sig here at GFY :D

Adultnet 02-16-2005 05:35 AM

Its a nice browser but it does not compare to I.E :)

There is supposed to appear a transparant TAB above your flash banners, which you can click to turn off the flash ad. :warning

GatorB 02-16-2005 03:49 PM

Good maybe I'll use it to block all these sigs. Maybe surfers will use it to block your ads so they can download all your content without all those ads telling them to pay you for your hard work.

Seems like a fucking great thing now does it?

DutchTeenCash 02-16-2005 03:54 PM

gotta love firefox :) i never wanted it but now ive got it cant life without it :) all kinda cool features no more fuckin popups

FYI, you can turn off signatures by adjusting the settings in your GFY User CP.
And the latter, yes that will be the case. But the way I see it, banners will fade away slowly and other means of advertising start taking the upperhand.

tungsten 02-16-2005 03:57 PM

very nice, thanks, installed

In what ways is IE much better than firefox?

NinjaSteve 02-16-2005 04:03 PM

why firefox is great - tabbed browsing, quicker load time, when your form fails you can hit back and your text entered is still there.

yellowmenace 02-16-2005 04:15 PM

Love the firefox! Tabbed browsing is an awesome feature.

Fletch XXX 02-16-2005 04:16 PM

you can right click block images without this extension, why do you think you have to install AdBlock to do so?

not the case.

You don't. But if you want to create certain rules, like block *doubleclick.net* images, you'll need it. Of course, you can not disable Flash banners with the standard Firefox feature, and with AdBlock you can...

I'm gonna give this topic a rest now. Enough with the Firefox spamming. :upsidedow
