DOS attacks - help

Anyone ever have a website DOS attacked?

What is the best thing to deal with this? Do you contact a lawyer who specializes in this or the authorities?

The website is a mainstream website, nothing bad in any way and it's not controversial or anything like that. Really it's a mystery who is doing it or why. This company I sometimes work with has no known enemies so we can't figure out why or who is doing it.

Any help please, or is this site only surfers now?

Hosting company was contacted. They contacted us actually. Any other tips from someone who has gone through this?

Install apf and bruteforce detection in your server. It will ban them.

for big sites , the downtime from ddos attacks and damage will csot more than 40k so it might be good investment for large scale sites

i think silver cash spent 100k on a solution last year

Thats because there is a lot of hardware and patented software involved.

Is this on a dedicated box? Perhaps the DDOS isn't directed at your site. If virtual it could be another site and if dedicated it can be another box on the same node.

Mr Dickovitch 02-15-2005 01:26 PM

It is several dedicated servers. This company didn't even piss anyone off, that's why it's so strange. Maybe the email that said "pay up or you will be DOS attacked" went into the bulk mail folder or something.

:(

is the host on it now? let us know

Mr Dickovitch 02-15-2005 01:43 PM

Yes, they say it is over now and turned off filtering. Still we are worried it will happen again. We will investigate the recommendations in this thread.
