DVD Ripping to get a lot harder

Looks like the Movie companies are finally doing something about all the dvd ripping going on. Soon there will be no more rent, copy and return.

That is until the hackers get to work on the new Copyright protection! :winkwink:

I remember when they came with safedisc for games and it was cracked in a minute.
so I'm sure somebody will hack this one too

It was the inner data ring. :)
I don't believe any protection on data will stick, until decoding is hardware reliant. I.E You need to have a 'data decryption card' in a spare PCI slot to decode DVD's or CD's etc... and even then I'm sure someone would be able to hack that.

They should just give up and produce the CD's without protection, they'd save money on licensing out the protection software etc. :1orglaugh

All this will do is render a lot of legit user's players useless.

"Macrovision says its new RipGuard technology will thwart most, but not all, of the current DVD ripping (copying) programs used to pirate DVDs."

So everyone will just start using the ones that can rip it.

They should stop saying that their DVD's will be almost impossible to copy.. It sounds too much like a challenge..

Yup, and ppl will complaint to Video Club with the movies they just rent , and tell them the dvd dont work and will ask for a refund.

Or trying to get a refund if they bought the movie from a store , and the store will tell them to fuck off

Lots of problems in perspective.

Safedisk 3 took fucking ages to be fully cracked (speaking in months time btw..)

NinjaSteve 02-15-2005 10:40 AM

Safedisc 3, well it wasn't utilized by all games. However if almost all studios use the same protection then it'll get more publicity.

The ripping/pirate business is far too big to let a bit of copyright protection stop them. For Joe public the encryption is enough to stop 90%. Only if you look into it will you succeed, though fairly quickly and easily.

There are so many forums out there sharing info, and its a big kudos to the first hacker to break the code. You can bet within days of the first dvd coming out with the new encryption, we will see new versions of dvd decryptor/mactheripper etc.
