I just spent about $800.00 bucks

and its probably the best eight hundred bucks any businessman will spend.

I was actually having lunch with a business associate when I brought up the fact that I wanhted to hire some colledge students at like $8 or $9 bucks an hour to read business books or self improvement books for me and summarize the most important parts so that I can absorb and consume as much educational information as humanly possible when he turned me on to this amazing service http://www.summary.com/cgi-bin/Sound...e/Catalog/1522

....I purchased 145 business book summaries in audio format.

Jon2 02-14-2005 09:12 PM

TheMob 02-14-2005 09:28 PM

Quality, not quantity.

Even in business.

not a problem.

B40 02-14-2005 09:56 PM

Can you email me the books? :winkwink:

Wonder how this would work though, isn't it against the copyrights? Or does the publisher/author get a cut of each sale?

How are the summaries? Say a 200 page book, how many pages do they summarize it to?

I disagree...its mathematics, quantity equals more money.

WWC 02-14-2005 10:45 PM

It defeats the purpose of gaining quality knowledge from reading them yourself....not the same if you read them or have someone else read them for you....its like saying, you go to school for me and show me what you've been thaught

if you combine all the general knowledge from all the books, you will develop your own style. you will be able to compare the different point of views. i think its a great idea

Snake Doctor 02-14-2005 11:30 PM

I'm something of a book freak myself....I love biz books on audio to listen to while in the car or walking or whatever.

The only problem is that business books are like diet books, every single author disagrees with almost everything every other author says.

If you listen to 145 of them you might end up more confused than you were when you started....LOL

Not necessarily.....its kind of like watching headline news on CNN.
You get the biggest stories of the day shortened into half an hour.

That's all most of us need to stay informed, as opposed to spending 6 hours watching every news interview show and reading all the major newspapers.

Obviously you'll learn more by reading every book cover to cover, but most of us don't have that time and its better to learn the major points than nothing at all.

I disagree..why waste your time reading the extras when you can get the bullet points and then take it from there.

Well, you would just take bits and pieces of each one and use what you like and discard what you don't like or what you don't think will work for you.

Muff 02-14-2005 11:39 PM

I feel the same way.

I haven't read many books especially on business where there was a whole book filled with valuable information. Why waste your time when you can get the information that counts and not have to read thru the garbage filler?

The only good thing about reading the entire book is if you don't understand something, you can get more examples or a more in depth explanation...but I guess that's what Google's for
