Help! Electricians, Computer geeks, whoever, help!
 

So I shot a Valentine's video last night that's 17 minutes long for my Valentine's Day update today. Then I FOUGHT WITH MY STUPID COMPUTER until 5am trying to get it to capture without buzzing. It captured tons of other stuff fine. But now there's a loud hum through everything. (doesn't matter which pgm I capture with) I tried everything!

I ran the camcorder off battery power instead of ac. I captured with the speakers disconnected from the computer. I captured with the speakers turned off. I captured with all manner of mixer settings and windows settings. Still no dice.

I have:

- replaced the 230 watt power supply and faulty fan with the new 430 watt Antec TruePower (http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=20430) that I was saving for my project computer.

- installed a new Bytecc Firewire IEEE 1394a 3 port PCI card (in case the problem was the firewire port on the sound card)

- experimented with a RadioShack Ground Loop Isolator.

- used the firewire cable that came with the Bytecc card.

- unplugged the speakers entirely, and also plugged them into a wall outlet separate from my computer tower

- muted all the sound card inputs other than the one I am using

- tried raising the tower onto books so it's not touching the ground (?)

Result:

My tower is much quieter now, thanks to the new power supply and fan. The buzz persists.

No, it's just stress.
Your buzz will only last not more than 30 minutes and it'll be gone. That buzz is caused by hardware failure over devices that requires more power than the usual. e.g. HD only requires 9v and you've been using your HD for longer hours, it's extending it's 9v to 12v. Now when you turn your machine on, it buzzes coz the power supply is only giving it 9v (coz that's what the power supply knows) while the HD is requiring 12v due to overuse. This applies not just do HD, mostly fans etc..

This happens to many devices, not just computers as well.

EDIT: Buzzing while capturing, you need more power.

So how long do I turn my pc off for to reset the power? It was off for a good 20 minutes while I installed the new hardware.

And you would think a 430 watt power supply would be able to handle the draw, wouldn't you?

It doesn't buzz audibly. There is only buzz in the audio track of stuff I have captured through firewire.

you are getting feed back, try to check your sound input. And guys don't quit your day jobs......

Nm, I found out the tape has degraded, that's all. Other tapes capture fine. Ugh. Now I have to reshoot.
