buy notebook

I want to buy a notebook as a replacement for my current desktop-pc.

What do you think about the acer aspire series, esp. the 1360s, any experiences? Or which other notebooks could you recommend?

What about the heat-issue? I'm currently leaving my pc up and running for 24hrs+ straight on a regular basis, would this screw the laptop's life expectancy in the long run?

Here is the answer to keeping your laptop cool. I have one of these and they are great. Laptop is never hotter than normal. They were made for macs but will fit any laptop just order the right size. http://www.themacshoppe.biz/rain/ilap.html

IBM ThinkPad T42 is the only choice ;-) Get the version with 15" lcd, 7200rpm hdd + bluetooth and you will be very very satisfied. Also, 1GB of RAM is good investment.

Have no problems with it, it's well built, powerful, lightweight, secure and has no cheap look. :-)

I think there is T43 comming out...

no one got an acer?

spideriux 02-15-2005 07:05 AM

Try IBM !

flashfreak 02-15-2005 07:23 AM

for $1400 you can get a Toshiba with the following specs:
centrino 1.6 Ghz, 512 ram, 15.4 widescreen display, nvidia goforce 5200 w/32MB eam, 80GB Hdd, windows XP home edition
I have his older brother, 1.5GHz and 60GB hdd.

on a second note: no one beats sony vaio but the price is a bit high, so toshiba is the right choice for these money.

flashfreak 02-15-2005 07:25 AM

btw: I saw an acer with almost the same specs as my toshiba.
overall impression is good, except it's not so slim and the display quality is not as good as my toshiba's.

Acer's are good but the best in laptops are the toshibas and are not expensive!!!

notebooks can handle the heat and when they get to warm they will shut don't so it protects the system. I would go with a hp note book they are pretty good.

i love my dell inspiron 510m, its light and has everything i need. you can't go wrong with a dell.

I have been researching laptops for the past few days. I decided the toshiba satellite was the best deal for the money. 3.33Ghz, 100G harddrive, pentium4 processor, firewire and 3 usb ports. You should be able to find one for close to that price.

Lykos 02-15-2005 08:47 AM

Sony viao definitly :thumbsup

cranki 03-13-2005 07:44 AM

any NEW advice? ;)

johnny1 03-13-2005 07:51 AM

Check out dell....if you call them and ask for discount they will give you 10% off.

spideriux 03-13-2005 10:49 AM

Dell is da best !

Pornwolf 03-13-2005 11:17 AM

No matter what you get just make sure it's not a desktop replacement. 1.7 Centrino is all you will need in your lap. Getting a 3+ GHZ laptop is overkill, loud fans, hot as hell and bulky. Trust me on this one.
