Pah, there were only 2 members of the beatles that weren't filler, and one's already dead. (Clue: The others last name isn't Starr)

How can you say that. It was the Beatles together that made them who they were. Even though John and Paul were the heart of the group George Harrison made a strong contribution. Some of the songs he wrote were: Here comes the sun; Blue Jay Way; Taxman and While My guitar gently weeps, among others. He was also lead singer on
Chains,Devil In Her Heart, Do You Want To Know A Secret, Eight Days A Week,Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby, I Don't Want To Spoil The Party, I'm Happy Just To Dance With You
Roll Over Beethoven, The Word. This Boy, Yes It Is, You Really Got A Hold On Me.
All the beatles were talented in their own right, (even Ringo). George was far from filler. I think before you make a statement like that you should have your facts straight. And when it comes to Beatles facts, I know them.
George Harrison will be missed. And it will be a sad day when he leaves us.

I didn't know that George has been facing such serious health problems. Very sad, I'm feeling very bad about it, I hope he will get through, but sounds like only a miracle can help him....I don't have to say if George was important like a Beatle, it would be silly. He's a great artist, I have heard a soundtrack of him for a movie in the past and it was the most inspired thing I have ever heard, not just a melody, but a dream. I searched to find it but I no luck.I'll try again now. I wish if this sad thing happens soon not to listen it on the news.... :-(

sorry for the multiple posts, something is wrong with board

Ok, I will admit that George wasn't exactly filler, but Ringo definitely was - come on! He was a drummer - didn't ya see the commitments? Or Spinal Tap? That's about how hard it is to replace a drummer! ;>

Yes Ringo could have been replaced as a drummer, but his personality added to the group as a whole. Their movie "Help" was centered around him. The groups success was due to the combination of the 4 of them. Take any one away and you don't have "The Beatles"

Ringo WAS the replacement drummer. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif He filled in one niche by having the longest hair to start with. But that was back before alot of your parents were even married probably. We watched them live on their first time on the Ed Sullivan show. Black and white TVs no less. lol

It's a shame when our icons pass on. He will be missed but we're pulling for a miracle for him. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/smile.gif He was one of the steadfast Beatles.

Bummer. I like all of the Beatles seperate & as a group. George may have been in the background more than the others but every band has at least one. I'm just glad that he didn't die when he was attacked. My prayers goes to him & hope that something wonderful happens to give him a few more years at least.

Actually, George Martin has always stated that George Harrison was the most accomplished and technically correct musician of the Group. He was four years younger than John and Paul, and worked hard to gain acceptance into "The Quarrymen", the band that John and Paul began playing together in when they were both 14.

As for Richard Starky, aka Ringo Starr, he was actually the only professional musician of the group when they hired him to take the place of Pete Best. Starky played with "Rory Storm and the Hurricanes", probably the most popular band from the Mersey Beat Scene before the Beatles exploded into an overnight sensation, after six years of attempting to succeed.

The true artistry of the Group, as has been pointed out, is clearly the Songwriting team of Lennon and McCartney. A prolific pair of writers that scored more songs and hits than Rodgers and Hammerstein. Their bond went far beyond the musical world, both sharing a loss of a Mother in their teen years (Paul's Mother to Illness - referred to as Mother Mary in "Let it Be", and John's Mother was hit and killed by a bus - referred to as Julia in the song "Julia" off of the White Album).

The pair began playing together when they were 14, when John was impressed that Paul could tune a guitar, and Paul was impressed that John knew all the words to "Twenty Flight Rock".

Gem,
I watched them live on Ed Sulivan too. But not many people know that about a year before that there was a filmclip of them made at the Cavern club in Liverpool. The clip was shown on the Tonight Show with Jack Paar (now if that doesn't date me, I don't know what does) anyway he played the clip as a joke. I remember my brother and I watched, totaly transfixed. Not long after that "Love me do" was played on American Bandstand's rate-a-record. For those of you who don't know about that, Dick Clark would play songs from unknown artists and the bandstand teens would vote on it. I gave it a 95, it had a great beat. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.com/board/wink.gif I don't want to say I was a Beatles freak, but when they came to NY in '64 my brother and I made my parents drive us from Jersey to NY. My grandmother's apartment building was right next door to Shea Stadium. We both hung out her 6th floor window, but all we could hear was screaming.

Johnny and the Silver Beatles were a magical mix of talent, personality and the timing of the televised age.

Perhaps if they had come today, they would not be the phenomenon they were. Had they not come along when they did, music as it is might not exist.

The first incidence of feedback was on a Beatles record. The white album incorporated the tape looping that became the sample mixing used today. The Beatles recordings were some of the first to be recorded in stereo. The lyrical change from standardized, acceptable balladry to music that questioned society and sexuality can be timelined right along with the Beatles incorporation of them.

You kids! You think you're stuff is all that and-a-redbull. You go. You get on the Napster and you download "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" RIGHT NOW and for good measure snag "Why Don't We Do It In The Road?" before I hit you with my fucking cane.
