And for those of you that are going to Lame ass enough to say Format C, My the fleas of a thousand Camels infest your pubic hair.

Young 02-13-2005 05:29 PM

awww i just got rid of this shit a little while ago. Do a search on google for About:Blank. Your going to have to edit some registry keys. Download HiJack this and knock yourself out in safe mode.

pornguy 02-13-2005 05:31 PM

I had not heard of this one. Thanks. I will give it a try.

pornguy 02-13-2005 06:10 PM

Bump for other ideas. This has not helped that much.

tungsten 02-13-2005 06:36 PM

hijack this is good.. make sure to use it in safe mode

Quickdraw 02-13-2005 06:41 PM

I had to use a couple of the ones you have-- +

intermute.com (Spysubtract is program you want there)
Microsoft spyware tool
grisoft.com AVG virus tool
pandasoftware.com online scan

Be sure to use the advanced tools on these too.. it helps.. especially for restoring your browser

Good luck

pornguy 02-13-2005 07:16 PM

I got rid of the about blank with the first program.

Now I have some other " Trusted Sites" that I can not get out.
I changed them in IE to block them, and then I delete them from the trusted, and then they pop right back up. The sites are:

@@@@@@@@@@@

DO NOT GO TO THESE SITES PLEASE!

*.frame.crazywinnings.com
*.static.topconverting.com

Exact same stuff I received when I did the 12clicks test that 49thParallel posted a couple weeks ago. It is VERY resilient scumware.

pornguy 02-13-2005 07:24 PM

Has anyone tried to do anything legally about this??

I have lost about 8 hours because of this.

I hear they are trying to fasttrack some laws in the states for this but who knows what will come of it.

For now I am just making surfers aware of the programs available to help them(too bad it takes so many programs to come close to fixing it)

Taboo 02-13-2005 09:38 PM

many programs will hijack your browser. I had the problem twice and these programs helped out:

FireFox is no less vunerable to exploits than any other browser and as it gets more popular you will see that. :(

I have seen. A few sites that try downloads for firefox get a little bar across the top that says something like "this site tried to do something to your browser, if you're really stupid click here, otherwise click cancel". No unstoppable dialogs, no sneak ware. Much easier to avoid. And if they do manage to get something in, I'll be over on the mozilla site, posting about it and getting a fix.

zentz 02-14-2005 07:23 AM

i had that, my norton antivirus 2005 fixed it

Lee 02-14-2005 07:23 AM

Surprisingly, the Microsoft one sorted my pc out a treat.

My wallet is just fine. Need a loan?

Plus, I know I don't have anything to do with screwing up peoples computers.

You profit on making others miserable. Good for you :error

We sell the same ads as every other mainstream company. When you clicked the links, you were asked to agree to a T&C. if you didn't agree, you shouldn't have clicked.
In most circles, thats called stupidity.

Oh yeah, the T&C clearly stated that I would get barraged with numerous spyware and trojan programs, including coolwebsearch among MANY others.
It also stated that these programs were nearly impossible to uninstall and would reinstall at any given moment. Nice try :error

You resort to name calling and belittling, for what reason? Most people do this as they feel a bit inadequate.

I simply stated facts, if you have a problem with those facts, well then, it is your problem.

At any rate, you have nothing of substance to say, so I believe we will have to agree to disagree.

I am done 'communicating' with you, justify yourself however you want.

Black Dog 02-14-2005 12:29 PM

You can set any web page to be your Desktop. Perhaps you did it accidentally with a blank page. Try this (on Windows XP):

1. Right-click on your Desktop
2. Select Properties.
3. Select the Desktop tab
4. Click on Customize Desktop
5. Click the Web tab
6. Is your Current Home Page (or any other) selected as your Desktop? If so turn it off.

I hope that works.

perhaps if you weren't trying to keep the content without looking at the ads (beaking the TOS and for all intents and purposes stealing) you wouldn't have had such a hard time getting rid of the ad component. breaking the TOS to make your point is typical of your kind.:1orglaugh

resort? nah. actually, name calling and belittling is at the top of my list when it comes to chumps working out of their bedroom explaining how multi-million dollar companies should be operating. :1orglaugh

you read the TOS, you agreed, you clicked. not sure what part of that is my fault but then you bedroom warriors have your own ideas on failure and who's at fault.

if I use all my good stuff on rabble, It won't be fresh when I need it.

SmokeyTheBear 02-14-2005 12:56 PM

Most of what 12clicks says is entirely true.

You agreed, you clicked the "OK" so its your tough luck

BUT

If you cant uninstall the software then its not software its "spyware". Find the maker of the software , and contact your attorney generals office "fraud team ". they are ACTIVELY pursuing the makers/soliciters of such software.

I have yet to find an attorney general that isnt DIRECTLY available for contact..

BTW they will most likely either forward the compaint to the attorney generals of the state in question ( of the offender not the reciever ) or have you contact them yourselves.

Dont expect a quick solution , but expect ACTION. Keep bugging them.
