How am I receiving these email spams?
How does this happen? I have a catchall email account for one of my domains, and sometimes join a site to see what type of content I would be promoting. Anyhow, this is the second time this has happened, where I join a site, and when I enter my email address, I enter a bogus email account such as ([email protected]) so that I know when emails come from them, as the catchall account will pick it up. Also, as a rule, I ALWAYS uncheck any boxes that say "Keep me informed about Special Offers..." etc...
For example, let's say, I join a site called "Hot Amateurs", when I would join the site, I enter my email as [email protected]. I only use this email address on this particular site. I am now receiving about 80 to 100 spam mails per day from random sites on those email accounts. They aren't even messages about the sites I joined. CCBill was the processor for both sites. How does this happen? Is it CCBill who stuck my email address on a mailing list or is it the site owner? I don't run any paysites, so I don't really know what the CCBill site admin panel has for email list options, but this is very annoying. -AC :2 cents: |
well its pretty obvious isn't it :)
They are spamming you thru the join list.. so the sites you sign up for are selling your info , or doing the mailing themselves. What i find really annoying is WEBMASTER programs that sell your list. At first its just advertising other sponsors , then as the list gets sold down the line it turns into regular surfer email spams.. |
