When the networks haven't acted, stations have stepped in to avoid complaints that could threaten their licenses. In November, 65 ABC affiliates, including WFTV-Channel 9 in Orlando, declined to air the World War II drama Saving Private Ryan with its coarse language. The film had caused no such ruckus when broadcast unedited in 2001 and 2002.
