Civ III is pretty old, but still the most addictive game I've ever played.

Warcraft III is pretty good.

Civ IV is supposed to come out this year, and it will probably destroy my productivity for 6 months when it does :)

morrowind is pretty cool

It is sort of a hybrid between RTS and RPG, but its a fucking awesome game - Rome: Total War

If you want pure RTS you should try Warhammer 40,000 - Dawn of War
