Seach Engine Advertisers Beware!!!! Fraud...
Click Fraud Looms As Search-Engine Threat
SAN FRANCISCO - Like thousands of other merchants, Tammy Harrison thought she had struck gold when hordes visited her Web site by clicking on the small Internet ads she purchased from the world's most popular online search engines. It cost Harrison as much as $20 for each click, but the potential new business seemed to justify the expense. Harrison's delight dimmed, though, when she realized the people clicking on her ads weren't really interested in her products. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...te/click_fraud |

I used to do really well with adwords and then one day clicks skyrocketed and conversions plummeted for no apparent reason... so I had to stop using ppc and focused on organic results again.

Sites like Overture don't help matters much when they spread your keywords across a "network" of ridiculous, cookie-cutter search engines that are ripe for fraud.
If you use Overture you'll notice that your exposure and clicks fluctuate wildly from one day to the next. I don't have time to monitor legit vs. bogus hits. When you see something suspicious they seem to be responsive if you report it but isn't it their job to monitor instead of the advertiser? |
