I Just Spent $15K on Marihuana Tax Stamps at Auction ...
The just bought some cool marihuana tax stamps at auction, including a book of stamps for $9K alone.
Many lots in the auction were 5-figures, with a few approaching 6! ... for marihuana tax stamps! And people ask what me I'm smoking :pimp :1orglaugh This thread wouldn't be complete without pictures ... http://gallery.marihemp.com/albums/c...dollarstps.jpg (book contains 4 pages of stamps; only one shown) http://gallery.marihemp.com/albums/c...15_lot2037.jpg For more pics and auction details (note: auction is now closed), see http://www.bennettstamps.com/ Details surrounding the history of marihuana tax stamps, as well as narcotic, alcohol, etc stamps - see http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/20/thread20224.shtml Ron |

Cool :thumbsup

Saw the auction mentioned on a news site. They'd be cooler if Washington had a joint hanging out of his mouth, but still cool. :-)

Some of the state issued stamps are really awesome looking ... see link below for some awesome / comical stamp pics
http://www.marijuanastamps.com/ (click on states and then use pull-down to select state to view) The federal stamps aren't as exciting as some of the state ones, but the fed ones, are on the whole, more valuable, since they're very rare (were never issued) and are uniform in design - what I mean is that are numerous state designs and also some states issued them haphazardly. Enough of me rambling on ... here's some pics of state stamps from marijuanastamps.com http://www.marijuanastamps.com/images/texas_100000.jpg http://www.marijuanastamps.com/image...a_drug_tax.jpg http://www.marijuanastamps.com/image...nnabis_tax.jpg Don't they mean JUST SAY 'KNOW' LOL! Agreed. Very cool stuff.

Hey, that's pretty awesome, nice buy
|
too bad its spelled wrong
|
marihuana is a correct spelling (marijuana may be spelled either way; any decent dictionary will list both) - many U.S. govt reports, documents, etc spell it that way, such as the well known report, in drug policy reform circles, titled "marihuana: a signal of misunderstanding" published in 1972 by the National Commission on Marihuana and Drug Abuse - note the spelling.
If anything, the marihuana spelling adds value, since that's how it was commonly spelled then - note the stamps were printed in 1917 and then overstriked in 1937 ... that's why the date field in the receipt next to each stamp begins with "191"; the book cover adds value, since it puts the stamps into context; mentions both years. those are pretty crazy looking stamps

I heard about those tax stamps. Back then you couldn't possess weed without a tax stamp, but you couldn't get a tax stamp until you showed up with the marijuana.
Perfect Catch 22. |
a bit overpaid i think but what the hell, u dont take ur money in your grave (when you would do it, drop me anote where you are buried:)
|
nice :thumbsup
|
Put them away for safe keeping. They'll be worth a fortune some day.
