Those have been going around since PayPal started, I used to get them all the time... That's why PayPal had to change their referral program rules from "refer your friends and get $5 for each person that signs up" to "refer your friends and get $5 for each person who deposits $250+ into their account".

PayPal is not a Pyramid Scam it's a daughter company of some of the biggest banks in the world (for the Dutchies: ING is owning a mayor stake).
