Why is sql so fast?

It always blows my mind to see how fast databases are.. why exactly is this?

how come it takes so long to find something in a text file compared to finding something in a database?

indexes + optimized way of storing the data inside the file...

Thats like asking satellite radio is so much better than regular radio. It's all about data indexing and structure!
