So many open wireless points.

my god! I can detect between 8-12 (depending on the weather) access points from my apartment... and like half of them are totally open! like, didn't even change the default router password...

anyone know any good tricks so I could pop up a message on their computer suggesting they fix their settings? I used to know how to do it with a windows service message, but I have long since forgotten.

I think there was a sherriff car out in front of my place surfing off my wireless the other night. I locked mine down tight after that.

just cancel your service and surf on theirs.

same here, very annoying.. i have a hard time finding my own.

If you want to see a load of open wi-fi points just park outside any high rise office building, apartment complex or major hotel.

Its unreal how many people and companies are totally clueless about their network security.

i got a laptop recently and i see the same thing - i get 10-11 wireless access points in my building and 2 are left unprotected. i've been to lazy to get a wireless router myself so i find myself leeching off of my neighbor :1orglaugh

If it's open it is also unencrypted. Sending sensitive data such as server logins is a big mistake, even if it is free...

emthree 02-11-2005 03:13 AM

sniff sniff
:tissue:

Trax 02-11-2005 03:16 AM

agreed, stupid to use other peoples networks. you're also on their internal network so you better hope that YOUR security settings are in order so they dont surf your machine.

but then again, y'all probably use kazaa or something equally evil that lets everyone onto your machine already

glad to see someone has a clue

i also use open networks to fuck with people that pissed me off

someone pisses me off I head on downtown and sit in the park and use their email address in a program like submitwolf...when I am done submitting their site to 5000 sites and services they don't know what him them....from 3 emails an hour to 3000 in a matter of minutes

colpanic 02-11-2005 05:29 PM

That is a great evil plan!

Ok, quick... somebody piss me off... I have no enemies right now :(

Went to a WIFI enabled restaurant for lunch the other day, popped open my laptop expecting just one choice of networks and I had 8 choices. Blew me away.
