So I went to urgent care on Saturday for my sore throat, it had gotten to the point where it just hurt to swallow, eat, drink, talk, etc. So he says its not strep throat, gives me some antibiotics and vi-q-tuss for the pain. So its Thursday and it doesnt feel like its gotten any better. Am I going to die? Do I need to go back? The medicine is going to run out in another 2-3 days.

Well I dont have medical insurance due to the fact that im self employed and I've been too lazy to get my own since I turned 21 and lost my parents insurance. And to go to urgent care again, I will have to sit and wait over 5 hours just to see a doctor for 5 minutes. I think I'd rather die.

Its most likely a viral illness...so antibiotics wouldnt be helping it, needs to run its course probably and will go soon. If you can stomach it, try gargling with salt water...horrible but helps.

Usually the amount of anti-biotics the doctor prescribes is dead on.

For instance, I had an infected thumb. Painful, painful little odd ball injury. Nevertheless, went to the doctor, got a 10-day allotment of anti biotics. By then 7th day, I'm furious, this infection is still admist my thumb. Sure enough, on the end of the 9th day, with two pills to spare - finger was completely healed.

Cefzil was the prescription. 2 pills a day, I still have 5 days worth left. I've been taking them 5 days or so already. The pain medicine will run out in 2 days.
No refills on either.


I dont know what swollen glands are since I'm not a doctor. When I open my mouth and go "Ahhhh", besides freaking out my cat, I can see something that looks swollen, in fact the little hangy thing in my throat gets stuck to it.

Was it 500mg? What did the doctor say it was? My guess was that maybe you needed the treatment for 14 days.

sounds like me. i went to urgent care on monday night (thank god i have insurance :)) and got a 10 day supply of amoxicillin. i'm feeling a little better but still hacking away.

Ok dude.. perhaps you are clowning but you HAVE to get propor antibiotics for tonsilitis and if thats what the fuckers gaveto you it takes up to 2 weeks for it to take full effect. So no worries.

If they diagnosed you wrong as in never said a thinbg about your tonsils
get back there otherwise you go into chronic and that requires surgery
if you dont want to feel like this for the rest of your life (im not kidding).

When you passed puberty having your tonsils removed is serious surgery that requires you to stay in the hospital for 2-3 days with a shitload of possible complications.

Antibiotics are over prescribed. Now days if they don't know what it is you have they toss a Z pack at you and hope for the best.

Gargle a lot with salt water.. get plenty of rest.. Make sure you dont have a fever (if you do go back).

So the fucking idiot doctor who gave me some random shit without looking at me (i saw the doctor less than 1 minute total, no BS) cost me an extra $320.

Weird, the doctor said mono will take between 2 weeks and 3 months to go away! And they didnt take any tests the first time I went, just a strep test.

The 2nd time they actually spent more than 1 minute with me and got it right.

???? Please show me where I said a doctor gave me antibiotics for mono. The doctor gave me antibiotics for my throat on Saturday, they found out it was mono when I went back today. And about the test, what test? I just said they didnt give me any test except a strep test on Saturday. There is no test they are waiting to see results for.

yeah the first one was. he was the only one at the urgent care clinic that saturday and the clinic was full and didnt let anyone else in at 11:30 that morning.

stop going to urgent care clinics, and call a dr and make an appointment.

"urgent care" is a fucking joke, there is nothing urgent about it. If you really are in bad shape and need to be seen immediatley, call an ambulance and you get priority when you arrive. otherwise, call a dr and make an appointment.
