I think this woman was a beauty queen and reality smacked her hard in the face. No offense, but where is it "common knowledge" that he would not be adversly affected by this? Everyone reacts to every situation differently. Either way, I do not consider it to be a "natural" nor "harmless" bias. People know right from wrong. The kid was 13. She was 27. Numbers don't lie. Well other than some sponsors numbers...but for the most part they don't.

Yes, he may gain increased confidence and happiness from this experience...or...he could expect that every relationship for the rest of his life be so easy and giving and that expectation could turn to hatred or violence or anything for that matter. At 13 he couldn't have had much to offer in the way of life experience for this teacher other than the occasional talk about Pokemon or his modded Xbox so with that knowledge we know that it was all about the sex for the teacher. From here on out, who's to say that he doesn't expect sex and ONLY sex from EVERY relationship the rest of his life? Perhaps he will have communication problems from here on out. Who knows? Not me. But I would CERTAINLY not assume that this is going to make him "a better person" in the long run. 13 years old is very impressionable to say the least. You are right, I should have use the term "common opinion" instead. We can't know with a 100% certainty what effects this will have on a 13 year old in the long run, because of the many factors, some of which you mentioned.

In any case, while I don't personally think the 13 year old boy will be harmed by this, I agree with the way the situation is being dealt with. If we don't adquately punish these situations when the victims are boys and the perpetrators are women, the kind of pedos that we all despise may get the idea that what they are doing is not wrong, or accepted, or think that they have a good argument to defend themselves with if they are caught.
