Fuck! We were robbed!

Well, not really we.
My mother was. And it feels really bad.
Cops came to make a few pictures and do the regular crap but surely that won't help much. Took the god damned computer, and been looking for cash.
:Oh crap
If you were robbed did you ever get your stuff back?

Harmon 02-09-2005 02:42 PM

I've never had my home robbed, but some friends have. That sucks... Did they catch the guys that did it? The faster they do, the better the chances of finding your stuff. Good luck man :)

Irrum 02-09-2005 02:44 PM

that sucks, I hope your mom can get the stuff recovered

pornstar2pac 02-09-2005 02:44 PM

your stuff is gone. write it off and move on

shima 02-09-2005 02:44 PM

I don't think they will ever catch them..

freeadultcontent 02-09-2005 02:46 PM

Been robbed, cops really can rarely do shit to recover your belongings, and alot of the time they do not even run any prints they get due to budget issues and the like.
Only real way to recover is via insurance, and is why I always do a video inventory of all my belongings as well as save reciepts for years.

shima 02-09-2005 02:46 PM

Makes me think about the computer security.. What can we do to prevent them fuckers from getting access to my files?

sweetME 02-09-2005 02:46 PM

That's sucks, hope your mom will feel better soon. Look at it this way, be glad no one was hurt.

We were and never expect to see it. We were lucky in that the thief only took what he could carry but it was still several $1000 of stuff. The insurance covered it but you never get the 'real' valuable stuff back such as pictures of your child on the camera, data/pics on the laptop etc etc. Fucking scumbags.

you computer has been sole at the nearest pawn shop already. don't ahve to worry about them snooping

Just_Dave 02-09-2005 02:50 PM

that sucks shima

shima 02-09-2005 02:51 PM

I don't mind the computer to be sold, its the files, passwords and other stuff that bothers me. How often do you save passwords to your sites..

They can get my access code to GFY! Can you beleive that?!

Mr Exotic 02-09-2005 02:54 PM

I am letting my brother borrow our spare car, he lives in some shitty ass trailor park and someone stole my CD player out of it just a couple weeks ago. Feels pretty shitty, even though it probably wasnt worth 100$ it still pisses me off to no end. Guess I am lucky they didnt steal the car.

Marcin978 02-09-2005 02:58 PM

i dont understand you
where is the problem?

i had robbery too, but i've changed all passwords asap
i lost my laptop, computer etc

do the same, just change all passwords!

Manowar 02-09-2005 02:59 PM

that sucks man.

EDDIE MURPHY 02-09-2005 02:59 PM

videopass-chick 02-09-2005 03:00 PM

No one was home so whats the point, unless you wish to supply thieves with guns to sell as well.

Evil1 02-09-2005 03:03 PM

use the boot up password on the motherboard. Most people dont even know it exists nevermind how to get around it. I really doubt anyone breaking into houses would have any concept how to get by it. They would probably end up taking it to a computer shop and claiming they forgot the password.. by that time, you could easily have notified every computer shop for miles to be on the lookout for it.

iFliPcEss 02-09-2005 03:03 PM

that sucks, and if the robbers were professional there is no way you can have your things back

I have like hundreds of passwords. We do webdesign since 1998, imagine the amount of passwords I have.
Not that they all are working but damn.. I wouldn't want to risk that type of info anyway.

axelcat 02-09-2005 03:06 PM

not a good feeling I bet

Just take out the battery out of your motherboard for an hour and bingo you got your BIOS reset to defaults. No password either.

clickclickclick 02-09-2005 03:06 PM

dont blame us. Coz thats just easy to do.

Nader 02-09-2005 03:09 PM

Sorry to hear that Shima..Most likey you stuff is not coming back! Get a Alarm for you mom brotha :Oh crap

shima 02-09-2005 03:10 PM

yeah.. my momma needs an alarm now 4 sure..

shima 02-09-2005 03:12 PM

Is there a program that can sort of ask for a password like 3 times, and if you type it wrong it will destroy your data? I'm really looking forward for a serious data security application. Any of you know a good one?

Well good for you corky, you waste an hour, I'd just reset it with the jumper, but what the fuck ever, had you read more then a half line the point i was try to make was most any crackhead breaking into houses would have no idea how to fucking do it and would probably take it to a computer shop.

Get one and get it quick. The % of homes broken into a second time within a few weeks of the first breakin is HUGE. The thieves know how to get in and where everything is so once the insurance replaces it all...

90% of theifs wouldn't know that. A police officer told me not too long ago that 50% of car audio stuff stolen in a area is found on the same side of town in pawn shops.

DarkJedi 02-09-2005 03:17 PM

I've been robbed at a gun point several years ago (at home).

Advice: lock the fucking door and don't answer anyone.

ArkansasDave 02-09-2005 03:19 PM

Thiefs suck!

that would be the first placed i looked if my shit got stolen.

shima 02-09-2005 03:23 PM

Computer can be disassembled and sold separately through a thing like eBay for example. No one will ever know. Corse it'll take longer, but no risk involved.

As for the dumb thiefs that do not know how to reset computers.... In my line of business I can't risk that..

Babagirls 02-09-2005 03:28 PM

http://www.epitope.org/laptop/ lol

sherie 02-09-2005 04:22 PM

That's awful, I'm happy to hear that everyone is ok =)

spideriux 02-09-2005 04:26 PM

sorry to hear that :(

Platinumpimp 02-09-2005 04:27 PM

That sucks ! You feel less safe in a weird way. :disgust

sonofsam 02-09-2005 04:28 PM

sorry to hear that and even if they do catch them.... in vancouver,bc there is a 94% percent chance that they will not even be charged.

Kicker 02-09-2005 04:32 PM

really sucks :(

fischi 02-09-2005 04:59 PM

If you want to protect the files on your computer, get a mac and use the file vault function in 10.3

Quote:

Eternal protection
AES gives you 3.4 x 1038 possible 128-bit keys. In comparison, the Digital Encryption Standard (DES) keys are a mere 56 bits long, which means there are approximately 7.2 x 1016 possible DES keys. Thus, there are on the order of 1021 times more possible AES 128-bit keys than DES 56-bit keys. Assuming that one could build a machine that could recover a DES key in a second, it would take that machine approximately 149 trillion years to crack a 128-bit AES key.

(To put that into perspective, the universe is believed to be less than 20 billion years old.)

Q man 02-09-2005 05:29 PM

i never got my stuff my stuff back when my car was broken into. That sucks when that happens

shima 02-10-2005 12:35 AM

Guess what they do with car stereo now:
You need 2 guys. One, breaks into your car, gets the radio out and puts it on the ground by the car. Then another one walks by and picks it up.
Even if you catch the first one - he won't get into jail because thats not a robbery, thats hooliganism. And the other one just found it laying by your car.

Hot Visions 02-10-2005 12:38 AM

My house got robbed once when i was a kid living in LA. the next day my dad found our broken VCR, that got stolen, in the neighbors trash. my mom called the cops and my dad ran in the neighbors house with a baseball bat and held everyone on the floor till the cops came :pimp
That was some crazy shit

wargames 02-10-2005 12:44 AM

No, when you get robbed there is very minimal chances that you'll get your stuffs back. Been there, been robbed. :(

Mr Pheer 02-10-2005 12:53 AM

buy a safe, and bolt it to the floor in a closet. Keep all valuables in the safe. Theives wont fuck with things that costs them time to get. Motion sensors in the house connected to a loud alarm work good to, not that brinks bullshit where they call your house when the silent alarm goes off. Theives know they still have 10 minutes or so to clean your house out after the phone rings, but with a loud alarm going off, they will leave immediately.

Over here they don't return your call, they simply send out the security guards. But it'll take them about 2 mins to get here..

Wolfy 02-10-2005 02:17 AM

it's gone, never to be seen again.

sorry bout your (mom's) luck.
