Today's Domain Idiot

Got this email today.

No last name, no company name, and from a hotmail address.

Sure, "Cindy", cash or charge?

Just wondering if you wanted to sell this domain for $50,000. This is a serious offer.

And just because someone emails you from a hotmail address means they cant make you a serious offer? Maybe they dont want you to know what company they own or what business they run because then you will ask 10x what you might have previously considered.

As long as you go through escrow.com, there should be nothing to worry about.

True, you got nothing to worry about if going through escrow.com

True, some will use a hotmail address.

Yes, it is plausible that someone wishes to remain somewhat anonymous.

But at least use a full name

crockett 02-08-2005 06:11 PM

Steen2 02-08-2005 06:12 PM

Obviously you're not in the high end domain business. Lots of idiots tie you up in escrow only to buy some time and try and flip an option.

I've done it myself so I know the game. :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Hey You . . . I Know You! 02-08-2005 06:47 PM

You could accept their offer and complete the transaction, then you would learn "Cindy's" true identity!

Oh wait, then you wouldn't have your great domain anymore. Never mind!

AVM 02-08-2005 07:03 PM

Who cares whether the offer is geunine or not. Why? Because regardless if it's legitimate offer or not, $50k is way too cheap for that domain. :2 cents:

Bex 02-08-2005 07:31 PM

My name is not Grant ... I would never want that domain. LOL

IPK 02-08-2005 07:35 PM

Heh, I got one of those the other day, some bullshit about preferring to hear my price rather than making offers. :1orglaugh

Project-Shadow 02-09-2005 02:34 AM

What the fuck is this guy on?

Hello.
I'm interested in purchasing 'domain.com'
Let me know what price you would accept for this name.
Best regards,
Yakov Yukhananov

Hello.

We are interested in acquiring 'domain.com'
How much do you want for transferring 'domain.com' to us? We prefer to hear your price rather than making offers.

We often buy various internet properties and will consider other domain names and websites you might have available. We recently acquired oklahoma.com, qn.com, smartsearch.com etc. I advice you to save our contact information and contact us should you put any internet properties for sale in the future.

Best regards,

Kevin Lynch

I take it he buys lots of big domains?

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 02-09-2005 02:41 AM

Translation: "Hello! We want to buy domains from people with no clue!"

I am sure alot of domain hawks run around looking for sellers who may have no idea that a domain they could own is actually a valuable one. I am one in the thought that really most people are simply stupid, and I admit that I have always given people more credit than they deserve concerning intelligence. Now its simple. Everyone is an idiot.

mkx 02-09-2005 02:42 AM

When I inquire about domains I keep my emails very breif:

subject: domain.com
message: Hi how much are you willing to sell domain.com for? Thanks

If you sound like your from a big company, I figure the response price will be higher.
