am I the only person that finds it kinda scary,and irresponsible, that people have .htaccess files...password protected content,etc etc....but do not have a clue how to protect it properly, or guarantee their members any kind of security in knowing that their user:pass is safe?

how can you run a site, and not have the slightest idea how to get around the security features,and what to do once you have circumnavigated it?

there is no rocket science in protecting your sites....just learn how to break em :)

I believe it is the responsibility of the sites owner to be up to date on any and all ways/tools that are used to steal from you...but yet, there are still website owners that have a policy in effect that if your password is comprimised,you must've shared it, in which case you lose your membership...when in all actuality, the webmaster leaves his passfile hanging out in the wind....

there are some really informative cracking sites out there,and many of you either know of them, or are members of these places...anyone who isn't,would be well advised to find them,and read,read,read....

Its not even a ripper, its a simple parser. CCBill, in most cases, uses the unix crypt function to handle password encryption. These password can be brutforced with the help of ripping software, like any other password on your system. You need to protect them from getting the encrypted password, thats the key. Once the information is possesed its only a matter of time before ANY password is cracked, I dont care what encryption algorythm you use.....

If I posted a list of every site I could grab the password file from here, right now... damn... that'd be a lot of drama.

The average pornsite exploiter has about 200 to 500 password files. The really good ones have over 5,000 (obviously a portion of them will have went out of business since being aquired, but are still useful in cracking passwords to their competition (so they keep these 'dead' files around)).
