hmm, my son
Ok, so none of you care.. but I figured I'd share this.
A bit of background. I'm fairly young, and the unexpected happened and became a dad about 7 months ago. Been involved and all that of course, but lost my job about a month after he was born due to layoffs. Been trying to make it happen via hosting and freelance perl work ever since. But anyways. It just hit me today I think that I'm really "a dad". he learned how to crawl about 2 weeks ago, and just today figured out how to follow me to room to room while I do household stuff like clean or whatnot. A couple times today I'd set him down and he'd start crying, and then come and find me and hang onto my leg until I picked him up. I think after thinking about that it finally "hit" what this is all about. Probably the most powerful feeling of my life, thus far. I now realize the love I feel for him is greater than any love I've ever had for anyone. It's just a strange (and good) feeling. Anyone else (fathers, heck.. even mothers) have some sort of experiences like this? Or did it just "hit" you the second the little guy/gal was born that you were a parent and life was "different" somehow. I can't say it truly hit at the hospital, but now I think I can safely say I can. This little guy is counting on me, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let him down. Gives a totally new perspective on life. Perhaps I should try to mend things a lot more with his mother (we're still together, although barely.. Probably both our faults), I dunno. Yup, i hear you bro, first time it hit me was when we were on the Sally Jesse show and she was reading the paternity results. Me and the 8 other guys were all waitting anxously, and when i founf out it was me, suddenly it hit me, i'm a dad.

And yes Phil, been there done that. My little girl just started school this year. I remember lying on the floor with her when she was a baby. She put her hand on mine and I could see that her ring finger nail was shaped funky like mine and that's when it hit me that I was a daddy. Strange how a physical deformity can bring a family so close together. Anyway, still doing Perl work? If you need any extra work, send me an ICQ. Seems like I am always picking up an extra job or two that I don't have time for. I'd rather give the work/money to someone who needs it and still let my little wannabe company take the credit for it. |

Phil21 feels pretty good being a dad doesn't it. Hold onto that feeling for times like what I am about to explain.
When my daughter was oh about 1 1/2 years old. I was playing non stop nintendo game with my step son. Well I guess she felt abit neglected. Because she came up behind me and whopped me upside the back of my head with a Mt Dew bottle. now mind you this was in the days they were the 16oz glass bottles. not these lightweight plastic ones. *LOL* I turned over to see her running to mom laughing her ass off. and I looked at the boy and said yep she is your mom's daughter *LOL*. ------------------

Actually, I'm about to be a father.. (just a few more weeks in fact).
I've been looking forward to it for a couple of years now. I feel more and more anxious everyday. I have but one worry... what do you do when your child is old enough to know what you do for a living? Do you lie? Do you tell the truth? Do you tell them but then tell then they can't see? How do you hide it? Do you hide it at all? Do you just lock yourself in your office/room for the day?? Yeah its the greatest feeling in my life knowing that your child loves you and rely's on you. I've got split custody of my 7 year old daughter who is absolutely beautiful.
At the moment i'm in the process of finding out via dna whether or not i have another daughter, who is now 3 and a half weeks old. Probably the worst feeling in my life not knowing either way. |

My almost 19 year old left back for the Air Force this morning, She was home for 4 days for the holidays, it's really strange how much her attitude has change since being in the Air Force..She actually respcts my feelings and others now. Phil, it's never too early to teach him Calculus or about computers. My little bro was learning computers when he was 4 y/o (18 years ago ;) -- our first computer then was a TI99/4a...
I finally convinced my little brother to let me teach him Pascal when he was in 4th grade... Now he's got a 4.0 in computer science and kicking ass at IBM. Ah yes...bonding. Its the best feeling of all. I didnt bond with my son until he was a few months old. It wasnt until he could actually respond to things I said or faces I would make at him. I sure did love him more than anything from that day forward. Hes 3 years old now. Pretty amazing when you have someone that is half you!

Hey Phil, we have a little boy who just turned 6 months old. http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/smile.gif My bonding started right away, what with him coming out of my body and all, but I dont think Terry (Daddy) really felt it until recently when the baby started babbling "DaDaDaDa"... its pretty awesome and kinda brings things into better focus when youre involved in a crazy business like this one. As a father of 3, I can tell you, that feeling hits at different times for each child, but it's strong...with my first son, we were both very nervous as I didn't really like kids and was completely suprised that my wife was pregnant...then my daughter came and it was a whole new set of anxieties...now I had to make decisions regarding which chastity belt to use, etc. ;))) then my second son was born and the first two help him along...so it is a bit strange, but I wouldn't give it up for anything in thew world...except those times they try to hug your legs as you come through the door and smack you in the nuts...those times are painful...I almost blacked out one time...double fist to the nuts...I'm now going through the really tough parts though...my oldest is in the first grade an hasn't uttered a word in school yet...he's picking things up fine and does his homework well, but was dignosed with "selective mutism" and it's heartbreaking knowing he's a bright kid (he recently did his first "hello world" in html) but the fact he is so paralyzed with shyness that he doesn't even talk to his friends in school is heartbreaking...
