I need to buy 100's of Computers
 

I'm looking for a wholesale source for 100's and maybe 1000's
of PIII PCs with 128 MG Ram that are just basic systems. They need to be
complete systems with a cheap 15" monitor, Win2000 or XP, Keyboard,
mouse etc..

No CDRW but a low end CD is required.

I know one source for Gateways at $99 each in bulk.

This could be a long term deal if you can supply them.

Hmmmm... not a bad idea to buy some cheap systems in bulk. Next time I lose it and want to break my current system I can break a cheap one with a ball bat. :thumbsup

pretty sure that winxp needs more then 128mb of ram to run.

Might want to go with 256mb to actually be able to run apps.

It will run on 128. It just depends if it eats up some RAM for Video. Also, it depends on the size of the apps he'll be running.

My GF had one... PIII with 128 mb of ram takes about 4 to 5 minutes just to restart it. About 30 seconds just to open explorer...

I set her up with a P4 Hyper-threaded 3 ghz and now she knows what video on a PC looks like.

Not for surfing the net. I've tested some systems and they
surf almost as good as the better work horses.

Start loading up a bunch of programs and you can say

She probably had a bunch of shit running in the background sucking the Ram.

The idea is to get them online for 4-6 months and then they want to upgrade
and they call me for the trade out on the upgrade !

I have one that my kid uses just for surfing and it runs just fine. I keep
it clean and run spy bot, adaware, reg run and a few other anti hijacker
programs. I set it up so nothing can install or change the reg files unless
I let it via reg run.

The only time it bogs down is when viewing videos. You have to walk away
if you want to watch a movie trailer or something but to the noob it'll
work.

I remember surfing new groops 10 years ago for porn and a single pic took 5 minutes to load :)

Hey dude where are you located? My best friends owns a computer store, and he has cases stacked ceiling high with those specs. Totes and totes full of keyboards and mice, and storage unit full of monitors.. all used matching pcs.
