Blogs: what service to use?

What services are good to use to have a blog? Or is it a bad idea to use one, just make/host your own?

if you dont want fill control over your work a blog service is great, what if you get picked up by google and start receiving traffic and your blog service is down? Just install the script on your own server, the only way to go

blogger doesnt shut down blogs for no reason.

i know amateur girls using blogger for years. and there has been no porblem with closing blogs since google bought blogger.

it was previous owners i believe.

can you show a case of google shutting down a blog?

ive never seen it except for blatant blog spamming. and the blogs were ON BLOGSPOT

but google doesnt close blogs over content - unless illegal.

and since the content is on YOUR SERVER it doesnt matter to them.

We will add new templates , so you can have more text, we will announce the new tools soon, now it's has more TGP caracters....by adding new features you will be able to choose for yourself how they look

I just wrote my own... they're really pretty basic. Even a begginer in php or asp or what ever would be able to make up a decent one.

You'll want to check on the latest info regarding search engines not indexing links with certain tags to minimize picking up blog spammers and see how that may relate to what you are trying to achieve.

The point being that, certain 'off-the-shelf' blog infrastructures may inherit some of the new SE policies which may or may not affect you in a favorable way.

I'm setting up a couple new blogs and they will be 'hand-rolled' from top to bottom.

Im not talking bout google shutting anyone down, why would one put time and effort into a site hosted somewhere else with no control over it, there are about 14000 free blog scripts, throw it on your own server and be done with it.

what are you talking about?

no control?

you send blog to YOUR SERVER it has nothing to do with blogger.

you are confusing blahblah.blogspot.com

with actually running your own blog...

Fletch XXX 02-07-2005 01:23 PM

http://www.fletchxxx.com/blog/

its closed now, but how do you say no control???

cool1g 02-07-2005 01:33 PM

you can run your own blog for free at:

www.free-blogging.com

and yes, it is VERY easy to install your own blog script and put one on your own server. Just personal choice IMO...most hosted blogs such as the one above give you a lot of control over the blog.

Host your own AND use a service. make sure you auto-post to both. see which you like better.

you can also auto-post to our service when it launches so you can generate more traffic/revenue.

Host your own. Use Movable Type or WordPress.
