well, true, this is not a gigapixel "camera", this is scan technology. interesting article nontheless.
it should be noted that 40mb CMOS imagers have been developed for DSLRs and we will probably see them in 35mm full frame format cameras within 18 months. (probably canon or nikon)
the new canon is about 16mb, with much better resolution and ISO capability than any 35mm film---so chemical photography is rapidly becoming obsolete.
the next big hurdle is getting PCs fast enough to do the post-processing these fast cameras can capture.
it will come, and soon.
now if we could only increase human imagination as fast as technology---because 95% of photography now is banal, uninteresting data, and not really worth looking at (porn included).
