What's the top speed of a stock Dodge Neon?

I had a neon back in 95 and hit 125 with it, no lie. I let off but i think it was pretty maxed out.

i think the base model is like 132 hp, so it will probably do 110, maybe 95 with the air conditioning on... all the specs ive seen are for the hi-performance model.....

Cool, thanks guys. Reason I ask is there was a news story on about a police chase where they were on TV saying the speeds of the pursuit exceeded 110mph, and I was arguing with somone here that they would do that speed.

Yea they will do 110 with a strong tail wind and a light driver. I believe the top speed against a head wind is 33 MPH but I could be wrong.

Would anyone bother to tune a Dodge Neon?

top speed has nothing to do with horsepower. it's all about the final drive ratio. i would imagine like most cars they top out around 125 due to the limits of the gears.


now if you got over 80 in a dodge neon, i would consider you fucking nuts.

I had a 96 neon back in the day. Got that bitch over 100 pleanty of times....took a wee bit though. The car weighs nothing.

So if I put bigger gears on my bicycle I could do 200mph! cool :)

For such a shitty car they sure can boogie. It's the light weight. However, almost every car on the market is capable of at least 110 mph. It's just amazing the neons don't blow up at that speed. cast iron block with aluminum head, you'd think the heat buckling the head would cause a blowout as the block would not flex with it.

Here's the funny part. The Neon has a fairly large motor for it's class at 2.0L pushing 132 hp. It's capable of give or take 110 mph. The Honda civic DX motor pushes 115 hp at 1.7 litre. Slower? Naw. Top speed 150 mph. Not that I would ever want to push my civic past 100 mph. That's just suicide.

Dodge Neons make excellent 2wd class rally cars, they're cheaper than a lap dance, which makes them perfect for someone just getting into motorsports
