ok i still can't figure out exactly what it's about. do the aliens come from outer space, or have they already been here on earth? all the trailers give me nothing.

jukeboxfrank 02-06-2005 09:05 PM

if it is a true remake the aliens come from space.

Carmensita 02-06-2005 09:11 PM

My boyfriend says they are making more and more of these movies to desensitize(sp) the public to the idea of it actually happening because it really will happen eventually.

It's a remake of the orginal War of the Worlds from the 50's.. It was also remade to be an old TV series that aired from 1988-1990.

Your boyfriend is delightfully paranoid. It's not that far-fetched, though. The only problem is, 99% of the movies show aliens as vicious nearly invincible enemies, not friendly emissaries of peace. So, they are really priming the public to panic and act like idiots. What use is that?

Digipimp 02-06-2005 09:22 PM

that commercial made that movie look dumb as fuck, what's he doing outrunning the earth being attacked in a fucking mini van? sure they don't have guns powerful enough to hit his mini van, they can only blow absolutely everything up that's just within sight behind it.

Well you are old enough to know what google is. :1orglaugh

No worries, thats how you learn my young little friend. Oh, by the way, I turned 19 last week so age is no excuse.

It was written my H. G. Wells and broadcast m\by Orson Wells via radio in 1938 and set a good portian of the country in to a panic. Many thought we were actually being invaded since it was broadcast as an actual news event. It's a great story, not only the story itself, but the aftermath of its braodcast.

Listen to it, you can download an MP3 of it. Its a work of art.

I have heard about the "famous radio broadcast" but I do not know the whole story by HG Wells.

Read it or listen to it. There's mp3s you can download and check it out. Its set up like an actual radio broadcast of events that could be taking place at the time. It was a classic. Very good listen and amazing story line. Well worth the listen. Orson Wells read it like a master.

It was one of the main issues and broadcast that set the FTC in motion.

Carmensita 02-06-2005 09:37 PM

My b/f is really into that stuff. He says there are underground bases all over the country, especially in new mexico where aliens are living and working with the government doing biological experiments and crazy stuff. i'm not too sure how much i believe but i've also read some pretty crazy shit. :helpme

NickPapageorgio 02-06-2005 09:38 PM

I always laugh when movies portray aliens as these super advanced beings who are violent and have super human strength. What if we finally make contact, and it's a bunch of trailer park dudes with mullets and beer stains?

things blow up in front of the guy.. the guy runs away... pretty simple..
The guy is not THE target... so yes he can escape without getting chased..

Is your bf name ET? hehe

j/k

Im not sure I buy all the underground goverment cover up stuff, but it's interesting and fun to read never the less. I've always had a slight interest and would never rule anything out, but I would have to see if for myself.

That's the way I see it. It's fun and interesting to read regardless of it's reality. You should all read this: http://www.title14.com/ufo/dulce/

Yeah but that wouldn't make for a very good movie now would it?

BradM 02-07-2005 01:59 AM

My dad gave me HG Wells to read when I was 12. :)

We should send ours into space then just in case theirs are the same way... I mean we don't want to cause an incident after all.

I know.

In reality we would come across some space probe type thing long before they were capable of traveling the distance.

Think of it in perspective how another civilization would find out about us. We wouldn't be skipping through space and stumble across them.. they would of long knew of our presence through a hunk of our space junk before that.
