America has the best programmers, according to CNN.
 

I saw last night, some company who analyzes which countries have the highest skilled programmers - out of a convention USA did the best... while indians were in like 20th place.

America has the highest skilled programmers, just india has more of them.

America HAS the highest skilled programmers & America HIRES the best programmers too :winkwink:

A large part of that is the fact that the truly skilled top-notch programmers come to America to work here. I bet they did that study by residence and not nation of origin. Obviously America attracts talented programmers from all over the world.

no this wasn't performed by CNN, it was simply covered by CNN. a big company actually had a couple thousand programmers go through an elaborate series of tests to determine who was the highest skilled - and i'm sure they based it on where they were trained, instead of where they currently live.

the convention was probably in the US so only the rich programmers from the countries could go while the poor but best programmers stayed home

interesting - how do you know this? did you do any in depth reports on the matter?

in general application programming (visual basic, foxpro, .net) i think russian programmers are amazing...

for web programming and backend development i have no doubt that america is on top there...

in unix/linux development (kernel, os, cli programs, x86 etc) europe is hands down the leader...

just a programmers point of view...

agreed, we are not the best at keeping with timeframes at times, but in all honesty would you rather have something done right the first time albeit a little off schedual or something done rushed and either sloppily or wrong... so much can go wrong with misunderstandings due to language...

not to mention i have heard plenty of stories where the offshore developers went MIA and never completed the project promised...
