SEO Question / help needed !

My (resource) site is listed in yahoo search results and yahoo directory but only one page (index). I need to figure out why yahoo will not index the other 400+ pages belonging to the site.
No problem with google btw all pages get crawled and indexed !

Pay me and give me time, and you will be #1 :D

If its in google I guess that there should be no issue regarding navigation within the site.

It could be that Yahoo is holding back indexing your whole site hoping you'll pay for the crawl... (I've other similar complaints and that is the only explanation that really makes sense).

time to start looking for an SEO consultant if you've been around 3-4 years and you're not somewhere near the top :\

I'm amazed that the mods haven't edited your sig since you have a competing board in it.

You are experiencing what is commonly referred to as the host crowding effect I would guess.

You can read about it here.

The Adult SEO Blog should be on everyone's reading list.

I just read the question again and saw you were talking about Yahoo and not Google. I am not sure whether ot not Yahoo has this same issue. But I guess they could.

FYI i asked Eric if it's ok to link to my resource site before doing it ( i'm not the only one having a resource in my sig )

thanks for caring if that's what you were doing !!!

Yahoo do take their time in indexing deep into a site. Not like google.
But if your site has been up 12 months then its most likely a penalty of some sort.Quite possibly a duplicate penalty issue.Check to see that there is only one version of your site and that includes your www. version as well as the root version. If there are links from other sites to both the root domain and the www alias then this can cause problems unless you have a 301 redirect from one to the other.
Also make sure noone has copied your site.Other than that it could be a link penalty where yahoo thinks you have a link farm or that you are associated with a penalised site.

I would also make sure your url structure is good and that you have a site map linking all of them.

If it took you so long and you still don't have more pages listed besides the index something must be VERY VERY wrong with your site...

If you are listed in the Yahoo directory your home page often shows up in the SERPs. That's the way Yahoo works.

This is why in many cases it's better to NOT be listed in the directory.

This is not uncommon.

Yahoo and Google are two very different search engines using different (and changing) methods of collecting and presenting information.

In my experience, Google tends to spool off listings with less regard for the origins of the content (eg. 'site scraping' and 'page jacking' sites often win over the original sites they stole the content from), and Yahoo, somehow, manages to distill the results into a more meaningful offering.

As a result, Yahoo tends to show fewer, but more relevant links (at this time).

This is not necessarily a problem.

Regarding the 'jackers' sitting on top of Google listings (at the moment), there has been enough complaining since mid-Dec/04 about Google's drop in quality of results, that this imbalance is being worked on with high priority.

If you have been 'page-jacked' or want to learn more about how to protect your SERPs, contact me.
