This is pretty interesting. The Transitional Administrative Law drafted by Paul Bremer requires a 2/3 vote in the National Assembly in order to choose a new government. In other words, Allawi only needs a coalition of 1/3 of the National Assembly to stay in power. Looks like that could be pretty close.

The shiites are trying to bring the Kurds into an alliance in order to gain the 2/3 vote.

BTW.. which guy was the Republican candidate and who was the Democratic candidate over there? And was Ross Perot on the ballot in Iraq this year?
