How the US hopes to keep Allawi in power. The coming power struggle.
This is pretty interesting. The Transitional Administrative Law drafted by Paul Bremer requires a 2/3 vote in the National Assembly in order to choose a new government. In other words, Allawi only needs a coalition of 1/3 of the National Assembly to stay in power. Looks like that could be pretty close.
The shiites are trying to bring the Kurds into an alliance in order to gain the 2/3 vote. |

You don't think that Bush freed the Iraqi people just so that someone who doesn't like America or at least is sympathetic to the insurgents could become President did you?
BTW.. which guy was the Republican candidate and who was the Democratic candidate over there? And was Ross Perot on the ballot in Iraq this year? |
