If you don't even realize how overly broad and unanswerable that question is, you're nowhere near ready to start a paysite. If that is indeed what you're thinking of.

TakingOver 02-05-2005 01:12 AM

You guys are funny...I mean that in a good way. So tell me more?

yellowmenace 02-05-2005 01:13 AM

Less broad: New pay site, one new release monthly...could get say 100 members by the end of one year????????????? Even less broader, say 19.95/mth...

No I run my websites for fun. You can make money from the internet? What the fuck?

sean416 02-05-2005 01:35 AM

bro, here's some free advice. Asking these stupid fucking questions on a place like GO FUCK YOURSELF... you're not going to get a lot of honest replies. Can you make money? what the fuck do you think? Are people making money? Of course. Are a lot of these idiots on the board surfers who signed up for a free affiliate account and make zero dollars? yes.

How are you going to get your traffic? Are you going to have an affiliate program? What niche are your sites? Are you going to have exclusive content, or are you making cookie cutter licensed content sites?

Here's a better idea, a good paysite with exclusive content and a nice tour would convert at about 1:500. You want 100 members in 6 months so thats roughly 17 members a month. 17 x 500 = 8500 unique hits a month. Do you know/are you capable of getting 8500 uniques a month to your paysite? Do you know how to make tours that will convert?

The days of 'build and they will come' are long gone, you missed those days. Now a days its "he who has traffic is king". Thats why most new commers are making free sites to drum up traffic before even thinking about making a paysite. But dont think you need a paysite to make money. There's lots of people who make 5-10-50k a month just promoting affiliate programs.

Take the next month to just read whatever you can, learn about the industry, research your markets, etc. and do that before jumping in head first. Otherwise you're guaranteed to lose every penny you put in. :2 cents:

escorpio 02-05-2005 01:39 AM

Why this obsession with money? Can't you just provide free porn to the masses and feel good knowing you're doing your part to make the Internet a better place?

KRL 02-05-2005 01:39 AM

Sex sells. So do french fries. Take your pick. Both pretty easy careers.

1:500 unique hits...to get one member to sign up for a good site...

So the key is marketing?

depends if you have traffic to plug into already, is the content cool and different or the same tired bought stuff? Exclusive exclusive exclusive is the key

Dude, give up, there's obviously no money in porn!

TakingOver 02-05-2005 02:18 AM

Well ManyBlake/Sean416, thanks...

Well I wasn't thinking a website, but an adult company...the web just being another way to promote and distribute product...

As for the site, it'll be exclusive and full of cool stuff...

It seems like it's Vivid or Homegrownvideo or the like making the real money...all these webmasters are selling their content...I don't see referring people to another companies site as a sustainable long term business???????

Hey, I'm new...thanks for any slack...

I guesstimate about 552.5
But that's only if it was built with flash, using flashy colors and alot graphical buttons.

You'll be rich for sure!

MrIzzz 02-05-2005 02:42 AM

be more specific in your questions and you'll get better answers, but honestly, posing those questions here will not get you anywhere fast, try out some of those newbie boards first where the posters will be more helpful

TakingOver 02-05-2005 02:52 AM

I just wanted a feel for the hits to joining up ratio... 1:500 is the only straight answer I got so far...

I do 1:200 with shemale and some of the fetish sites
up to 1:1000 for more 'general' niches like lesbian, amateur etc
Strangely as it may sound to you the less converting sponsors make me more money. Why?
Quite simple. It's easy to send higher number of hits to the 'general' niches.

My advice. If you don't know anything abouth the adult business, forget about the pay site for now.

TakingOver 02-05-2005 03:22 AM

A free site for a while, generate traffic, then think about a pay site...?

Advice is out there?

Thurbs 02-05-2005 03:38 AM

Not A free site, hundreds of free sites, thousands if you can. Here's a good way to start in online adult if you have no idea what you're doing.

1. Learn HTML
2. Learn how to use a graphics editing program, eg: photoshop, fireworks, imageready. etc.
3. Get a domain + Hosting.
3. Make 3 galleries + submit them to TGPs (chameleon submitter works well) EVERY DAY!
4. Make 1 freesite everyday and submit it to at least 50 big linklists EVERY DAY!

Being a good webmaster comes from constant building. Not making one really good site. One freesite = thousands of hits. thousands of freesites = millions of hits. You do the math.

That formula will not make you rich, it will make you a couple bucks though and you will learn how to manage traffic, what sells, how to write good text, find good sponsors etc.

There's obviously a lot more to learn, but you asked a very broad question. ;)

TakingOver 02-05-2005 04:28 AM

What about trade shows and getting girls to do promo work???

More Booze 02-05-2005 04:31 AM

846 signups.

TakingOver 02-05-2005 04:33 AM

846? You mean that's what you got at a trade show?

Wiggles 02-05-2005 04:38 AM

i don't think you should expect to make much first year unless you have a killer unique idea.

Trade shows are pretty much 100% useless if you aren't in the industry already. Asuming you are going there to do biz, not look at half naked girls. Hiring models???? Forget about models. Forget about rolex's, forget about paysites. If you want to make money learn the basics before investing your money into something you have no idea about. The 5 steps I wrote down will cost you $10 a year for a domain, $10 a month for hosting (you will have to upgrade, but you should be seeing sales by then ;) )

Do yourself a favor and close GFY right now! It's a waste of time, start building sites, there is no other way. Build build build and you will succeed.

lokiproductions 02-05-2005 05:24 AM

Here I was thinking I was a newb ;)

robfantasy 02-05-2005 05:27 AM

just send me 1/2 the money you plan on spending on a career in adult and you will be 1/2 richer than you would have been

JimmiDean 02-05-2005 05:32 AM

You can make money at this ?

Nobody is making money.

A successful membership site has 5 members after six months and 10 in a year - less 3 chargebacks, 2 bounced checks and one refund to a guy who can't play wmv movies on his Apple Mac. The other four members were really password traders who consumed 14 gigs/day in bandwidth.

But in the second year... things get better.

That little??? :winkwink:

I was thinking of setting up a paysite myself and have this idea I'll shoot my own content to save money. But I'm only interested in real porn stars like Jenna and want to give the members value, - just $9.95/month. I got a new credit card and I'm going to buy a Sony ZingBlah 5432 camera and get a local hotel room as a set. I've already got a good hosting account at geocities and signed up with iBill....

Has anyone got Jenna's phone number?
