J.D. Obenberger

I first met J.D. at an AWE show in Portland back in August of 2001. He pissed me off by not taking the time to properly answer one of my questions during the questions part of his "performance."

If any of you have ever sat in on some of his legal panel discussions then you know why I call it a "performance." J.D. has a way of captivating his audience. He grabs your attention from the moment he starts to speak and he maintains it until he leaves the building. Most of the other speakers tend to bore me to sleep.

Not being a passive person, I later confronted J.D. about his lack of answer to my question. As it turns out, it wasn't his answer that was unclear...It was my question and he gladly let me rephrase it and then proceeded to give me much more of an extensive answer than I would have ever gotten during the panel discussion.

Moving on to the point of this thread........

Not only does J.D. put on a great show...But he also knows his shit and is very thorough. In all seriousness...If you ever need a good First Amendment Attorney.....Give him a call.

Bah! I've sent J.D. some clients over the years.....It's the least I can do since he has helped me from time to time.

MikeB 02-04-2005 02:06 PM

J.D. definitely knows how to capture an audience. In the years of the AWE tours I saw him many times in the legal seminars, really he WAS the legal seminars.

Last night I was browsing thru some old AWE pics, and got a few of J.D., I'll post some on here later tonight. Thumbs up :thumbsup for J.D. and the invaluable free advice he's given to thousands of webmasters.

I've had a member of our site - not a webmaster; a subscriber, send me links to J.D.'s site because they were interested in Freedom of Speech.

yes, very impressive attorney if you have heard him speak.

"Performance"

That's a good description Aaron of exactly what does go on at the legal seminars.

I was greatly looking forward to learning something at the Miami seminar, but all 3 lawyers used the stage as a platform for motivational speaking and standup comedy...or so it seemed.

Over the course of the seminar I did learn one thing that I didn't know, so I'll give them that, but aside from that, it was nothing more than standup comedy.

The legal seminars are great for the newbies, but if you have ANY clue about the laws in our industry, they're a waste of time imho.

As you said, HIRE one that knows our industry (as I'm sure JD and the the others do) and get the quality one on one time to get the answers to the questions that YOU need. Don't waste your time in a legal seminar to get a general overview of the industry laws and how the government is doing everything in their power to destroy us. Everyone SHOULD already know that.

AaronM is 100% on target. I have had the pleasure of hearing him many times and have had 1 on 1 with him a few times as well as with AaronM and JD together.

My favorite rant of his is about the fact that you woudln't let kids play alone on the interstate or highway so what let them play alone on the information highway?

Showman - Yes.
Outstanding Lawyer - Yes.
Looks a lot like me - Yes.

Good job bringing a man like him to the attention of everyone here.

Yes Brad....I am well aware of the current law suit against you. So is anybody else who knows anybody in this industry. There is nothing to privately discuss.

Here's the short story...

Lace shot a girl several years ago. I believe it was a "test shoot" and no release was obtained from the model. Somehow, images from that shoot made their was to Lace's content store.

The rest of the story is rather involved but let's just say that there were a lot of fuck ups. :glugglug

You have not lived life until you heard JD's story about artichoke. Somehow, during dinner at the luxor steakhouse, he managed to slip in a 30 minute aside about artichoke in a conversation about obscenity. And for some reason, he had me captivated.

Lionel Lutz is my attorney.

Raven 02-05-2005 04:35 AM

JD was the draw for me to finally attend my first conference in Atlanta at the AWE.
I had been in the business for three years and it was time for me to get a clue.

Changed my life forever.

Good lawyer. Good guy. Good friend.
